please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We recently spent a week in lovely Orton and became regulars at The George. Although the sparse interior lacks that country pub ambience, the beer (always several ales on tap) and food were both good. Reasonably priced too.

Assuming we are talking about the George in Keswick town centre, its a decent Jennings house, always seemed busy over the weekend we were there. Ancient building, some interesting old panelling and a disused half-door (from a previous room layout?) in the front left room, a nice old openplan arwa to the right and the bar area up a step at the back. Small, but very decent range of malts as well.

A great place to dine when staying at nearby Scar Side Farm.

Returned to the George again. The food was nothing short of super. I chose the lamb shoulder which was huge and tasty with real chunky chips, my wife chose small cow pie with chunky chips. The small cow pie was massive and my wife being a good eater still couldn't finish it .What size the standard pie is could could possibly frighten you! The difference when a pub makes the effort and provides fresh produce. We'll be back!

Multi roomed with a good selection of mainly Jennings beers. Nice photos of old Keswick on the walls. Relaxed atmosphere.

Great inn full of character with very authentic cal/log/gas fire. Ales always of good quality with again good choice. Food ok but spoiled by tastless chips.

Large multi-roomed pub/hotel. Choice of Jennings. friendly staff & plenty of room to sit. It gets very busy at the weekend.

Good choice of well-kept ales. Friendly staff, even though we only ordered soup for lunch after getting soaked on a walk from Shap, the chef gave us a free plate of roast potatoes to go with it!

Excellent range of Jennings beers in top-top condition and very good food at a decent price. We were in on a (lively) Saturday night and it seemed to stay open quite late, well past midnight. Friendly staff and even a dartboard which was most welcome.
