Went in a few times recently as I live nearby.
Have to say that it has improved a lot. Still a bit like drinking in an airport lounge though

Ah the Travellers Rest
Myself and the other half (boss) visit this pub frequently for one reason alone.
It's dead. If you want food and drink poured quickly and without atmosphere - then this is the place.
the recent refrurb was overdue - but they've ripped all the character out of it.
I have to say that the service is crap, the drink selection (when they have any) is crap but the food (for boil in the bag stuff) is quite good.
I would suggest going further afield - say the Castle on the Hill for example. A much better example of what pubs should be like.

Its in a very good position and decent enough for "just the one" on your way into town. But its hardly a pub really, more a restaurant with bar attached.

Once the best pub in the area - by quite a distance.Now just boring. The restaurant is the best thing about it, but a little pricey.The staff are ok,the beers ok & the toilets well kept.However,1 pint in here is quite enough.

I agree, it used to be a nice pub, but its gone alittle downhill.

Used to be a really nice restaurant with lovely decor now its just the same old thing you get everywhere
