Decent 6d Brewery IPA last night (Weds). Good atmosphere, lads watching football at one end, pool table in use at the other, and a CAMRA gathering in the middle! This is why pubs should be multi room!!

We were there yesterday at about 4pm and were the only people in there apart from one lad talking to the not particularly cheerful girl behind the bar. We sat in a cosy "snug" which had an open Victorian coal fire, wood panelling, modern slate floor and black leather chairs. The Sixpenny Brewery IPA was slightly cold but tasted good, also available were Sixpenny Black and Butcombe on the ale front and Stowford Press, Thatcher's Cheddar Valley and Ashton Press ciders so quite a decent range all round.

Hi lovefoodpubs, I sent a response to you a while ago, be good to receive a reply :-)

Well I'm pleased to say that taking the decision to no longer do food has paid off, I'm busier now than I was before.

Yes the prices have gone up since I last posted, usual reasons, supplier incrteases, higher running costs (Sky increase, rates increase, utility increases, rent increase etc etc)

Yes, I'm a pub, not a pub that does food, nor a restaurant that's really a pub lol there's not many pubs that are just that, my customers love that I don't do food and those that do want food find that being able to have takeaways delivered a bonus!

not sure what the problem would be with it being a 'drinkers' pub- I'd certainly prefer that to a 'trying-and-failing to be a resturant' pub. Only been there once, but lots of interesting nooks and crannies to sit in, decent beer and interesting range, probably your best bet if you find yourself stuck in Shaftesbury.

felt intimidated by the landlord, he had a big chip on his shoulder!!

All hail the drinkatorium whatever that maybe (a pub ? where people go just to drink! heavens!)
Prices have gone up!
More Moto GP on the sky sports is needed though.

Currently, this is marketing itself as "probably the cheapest beer in Shaftesbury" and it has stopped doing food. Instead, you can bring in (or phone for) your own food or takeaways from local places. Good selection of beers and ciders, BUT the combination of Sky Sports on 2 screens and no food may well turn it into a "drinkatorium". At the moment, they are trying hard; hope that this gamble might pay off. I have to remain sceptical, though.

this could be a great pub....but the H & W beers aren't brilliant and the food menu is poor.
great building though and nice interior.

Probably one of the best in shaftesbury - although there is not much competition.

Friendly atmosphere and good beer.
could do with cheaper beer as always

Be very wary of this pub.
The beer - all Hall and Woodhouse of course, was average.
The customers only three on this occasion and all "regulars", are theives.
I had a very nice Zippo lighter with the England Rugby rose on it and the date 2003.

A member of staff asked to borrow it - I agreed. Then it was passed to another customer and I never saw it again.

The staff have no shame.
