user reviews of Prince Arthur, Euston

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Had a lunchtime pint. Drinks were ordered at the bar, seemed OK, approx. £13 for 2 pints of Pride and a glass of merlot (for the laydee).

Interesting "artwork" around the place (reflecting the street it is in!), along with some clutter hanging from the ceiling (OK, the antique musical instruments I get but ties?).

We had a plate of the BIGGEST sweet potato fries I have ever seen between us, which were quite nice.

Sorry, didn't get to try the gents this time (see earlier reviews).

Hehe. We had Sunday lunch here on the 19th May. Roast beef , and the veg ? Carrots and courgettes. Well, I think it was beef. So bad it was funny. Had a train to catch so couldn't be arsed to complain. Strangely would go back though. 3 - 4 ales on, cant recall what they were as I had an Aspalls . Best option in the vicinty methinks But not to eat.

Really nice pub, very polite and friendly service. However I had the worst Sunday roast I've ever had, actually the worst meal I've ever had
yesterday. I'll certainly go back for a drink, but feel insulted about the slop for £10.95. Had anyone asked how the food was I would have let them know!!

My new hidden gem of a London pub once you pass the stripclub, sex shop and transgender surgery (?) business. I had my birthday here a couple of months ago and it had all I could ask for at my age, namely a stagger's distance from my nearest station, vast tables - the pub was shamefully half empty all day Saturday - and can even boast one of Britain's fewest pubs to offer table service. In addition, the food is a good notch or two above standard pub grub. A lovely, lovely place and the last time I paid a visit - live jazz! Can't recommend enough.

I've often found a lot of the pubs around Euston to be real dives. But this one has a more upmarket feel. 3 ales were on - Timothy Taylor Landlord, Caledonian Deuchars IPA & Wadworth St George & The Dragon. There is a 4th handpull, but the Pride was off. Seemed a little unusual, in that the barman was serving direct to tables. The portraits of topless woman around the walls are more in an arty taste than you might imagine, considering the seediness of this particular street. The gents toilets left a little to be desired. But otherwise, not a bad pub.

Stopped in on Saturday night for a drink to get out of the snow. Roaring fire and friendly service. Several ales on including Deuchers' IPA and Tim Taylor's Landlord. Another in the decent selection of pubs around Euston station.
DuchyBoy - 6 Feb 2012 08:51
OK pub, when I was in there only a choice of two ales. One was horrid, one was OK. Not the best pub.
TheHorsesMouth - 29 Jun 2011 13:27
Handy for Eutson station and less madding crowd than the one down the road. Pleasant enough place; though the toilets could do with some work. Reasonable ales and outside seating. Worth a visit.

Definately worth a visit - I happened upon this pub while transfering from Euston Station to Pancreas, its directly between the two stations.
Inside decor was very ecclectic, mis matched furniture, interesting art work, smooth lounge style music, made for a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere . I ordered the Steak Sandwhich with Home made fries, I have to say it was delicious, steak cooked to a perfect medium as requested, big fat well cooked chips really did hit the spot. There was table service with a smile, the young barmaid was helpful and attentive without being over bearing and intrusive.
I stayed for 3 hrs, with the free Wifi available I was able to work and pretty much spent the whole lay over in the pub. I was surprised to see they carry Leffe and Hoegaarden belgium beers.

Definately recommend this establishment.

Date of visit: Friday 21 January 2011 - we tried this place for lunch. It looks like a pub (from outside and inside) but it's waiter table service only - no drinks at the bar. However, it's not a gastro pub - the food is all bar meal stuff between 3.50 starters to 8.50+ main courses. There were three beer pumps, but one was off, leaving a choice of Deuchars or Greene King IPA. No lover of Scots beer, I reluctantly went for the brewery-killer brew - but it was good. And I have to say that the fish and chips (down 8.50 to 6.50 as a "special") was the best I've had for ages. One jarring note was the piped music, of the smooth/funky style. Worth a visit for lunch.

Recently hired this pub out for a Saturday night party. Everyone agreed it was a great venue. The staff were lovely and helpful, the food they did for us was really good and there was a choice of 4 real ales, including my favourite, Landlord. Highly recommended.

Was passing through nearby Euston and found myself in here, the bar lady was very friendly and attractive and they had three ales on, TT Landlord, Deuchers IPA, and two others which werent very interesting. I quite like the pub, they seem to have tried hard though not in the toilets and the girl behind the bad was lovely but the ales were not in the best shame but it was very quiet apart from three customers drinking lager with blackcurrent or something equally nasty!
jeffbridges - 8 Feb 2010 18:30
Thursday 14 Jan they only had a just about ok 6X and Pride. Deuchars and Landlord off. Enjoyed the art. Pleasant barmaid.
GuideDogSaint - 18 Jan 2010 22:04
Rather large single bar pub with island bar. Ineresting paintings on the war in part makes up for rather soulless atmosphere. The USP is waitress service, but they don't seem to know how to do it properly - the waitperson had to return to the bar to pay in our money after each round. It was quiet so it didn't matter much but might cause problems if busy. Beer average (Landlord, Deuchars, and London Pride]. Waitstaff very pleasant. Food also average although the chips were excellent. My visit was on one of coldest nights of winter so this might have affected the beer and it might normally have been busier.

In here again last Monday and I was even more impressed. Lovely cosy pub.
Fish and Chips was superb, best ever.
Table service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive (we didn't tip every round but left cash at the end as we felt we'd had a cracking night out).
TT Landlord was a lovely pint, the Deuchars IPA was a very close second. The Pride was a bit disappointing by comparison but this is feature of the beer not the pub.

Dan65 - 26 Nov 2009 15:41
A good pint of Pride in here. also good food .good deals on specials of the day.

This place is always shut when I go past so I was happy to find it open last week. Unfortunately it was just closing, as the barmaid pointed out as she hinted towards me being illiterate. Strangely I dont stop outside every pub I visit and spend five minutes reading all of the signs in the windows.

I will get in here one day, but Ill not be making a detour again to do it.
Strongers - 28 Sep 2009 23:01
Decent boozer near Euston with ale, food and roadside seating out front. Decent pint of TT Landlord but non-smoking beer lovers will head for the Doric Arch instead.
SimonM - 28 Sep 2009 10:04
Quite a nice looking pub in a bit of an iffy area on the east side of Euston station. Four real ales on - all usual suspects, but my pint was well kept. Fortunately I didn't get caught by the table service business because I would probably have headed straight for the door...
rpadam - 20 May 2009 23:01
Cosy pub in less salubrious area (follow the trail of adult bookshops). Table service if you want it. Good food, not cheap but tasty and filling. Ales on were TT Landlord which unfortunately ran out, Green King IPA and Fullers (also ran out). Friendly staff. Nice place.
Dan65 - 20 Mar 2009 22:00
Excellent pub. Well-kept beer, very good food, friendly table service and plenty of comfy seats. Highly recommended if you're in the area.
DholeMoney - 19 Nov 2008 14:49
Revisited this pub the other day when I had a couple of hours to spare on a Friday night before getting a train. Overall I'd say it had improved. Strangely the selection of ales seemed to have declined - Flowers, IPA and one other...Pride? However, for a busy Friday the service was decent, prices were fine and it was nicely done up inside. Not a bad place for whiling away time in the area.

Ive never really got on with this place, perhaps because I have tended to visit on my own and it has generally been packed with large groups and its been difficult to find somewhere to stand and have a pint. Decided to give it another go on a recent Monday evening only to find it almost empty. There was an amusing little scene as I arrived and one of the waiting staff leapt to their feet and urged me to take a table. I was able to convince them that I was fully able to carry a pint glass myself and I suspect they realised that I was unlikely to leave a tip anyway. Nice laid back atmosphere when its quiet but I imagine it can get quite hectic on a Thursday or Friday night. Four hand pumps, the Landlord I has was OK and reasonably priced at 2.80.

Millay - 9 Feb 2008 21:20
Decent enough pub near Euston station. The Thai food is sensibly priced and nothing to complain about (if also nothing to write home about). It is quite dimly lit, and the music is slightly louder than I would have preferred - both times I've been here, the music has interfered with conversation. Beers on last night included Black Sheep and Landlord. They're still doing table service.
Kake - 7 Dec 2007 18:55
It's a grate place, certainly the best boozer in Euston. Nice choise of beers and wines plus table service! I ve heard they want to build something outside for smokers- that's even better :D
szyszka - 21 Nov 2007 13:49
This a nice wee place. Interesting interior, lots of seating outside and table service, so you never have to leave your seat - which is a good thing, otherwise you might miss one of the frequent twitching and gurning nut-jobs walking past. Hours of fun.

Standard selection of booze, pulls a nice pint of the black stuff though.

Best pub this side of Euston.
TeamSambo - 3 Aug 2007 12:49
Popped in for a pint last night, fist visit for over 10 years. Good beer & excellent service
stevecole - 5 Jun 2007 12:55
Great place!!! Very kind staff, TABLE SERVICE... Food very good but could change menu from time to time. Apart from that fantastic place for a nice evening with your mates, specially when football is on :)
anonymous - 8 May 2007 12:19
Only been here the once on the strength of another pub site recommendation but it hardly blew me away. I guess you can sit outside on a sunny day but you'll have to put up with the Eversholt Road traffic. Big screen inside but the picture wasn't that great - maybe I was just unlucky?

Good range of beers mind hence the reason for its popularity. Having a reason to visit this place really depends how much you're into real ale.

To get there from the station you'll have to run the full gamut of Euston seediness.
anonymous - 2 Feb 2007 19:25
It's an unassuming pub that's really pretty nice, and has decent beer and food. It's handy for lunch but can get full. It looks pretty shabby from the outside, but don't let that put you off. It's lengths ahead of any of the other local pubs, and is the obvious choice if you need to meet near Euston station.

Look out for the peculiar paintings on the wall. They are for sale, but regrettably no-one has bought any...
jhsp - 9 Feb 2006 22:51
Nice pub, with very helpful staff. Thai food seemed popular. Though near the station, not the first pub you come to, so will generally avoid the chavvy lush crew and suits. If meeting people in Euston, could do much worse than this one.
redrocket - 31 Jan 2006 15:01
Service was very good here last night - pleasant staff serving direct to the table which was useful with the football on. And then to top it all they went out to the local shop for cigarettes for us too.
markyg - 13 Oct 2005 10:40
An odd pub this one.......I spent the day in here after the 07th of July terrorist attacks and have got a soft spot for the pub now.

It is an odd clientle, sometimes just a few old men and other times rammed with suits. They seem to lack a bit of atmosphere as they count on office trade Mon-Fri and then close Saturday for private parties. Not eaten yet but mates have enjoyed it.

Odd music policy?!?!?
Badgers - 5 Aug 2005 18:12
Good beer, friendly and efficient service, decently priced Thai food - all in all a result.
jez99 - 8 Jun 2005 14:29
Glad to see this pub has improved. I used to drink here when I first moved to Camden and it was lovely. But it went way down hill a few years ago. Sounds like its worth checking out again.
valbear - 7 Feb 2005 17:12
I had to meet someone near Euston so used Beerintheevening for a recommendation and this one came up.

I generally had low expectations of a pub opposite the station but I was so pleasantly surprised. On the face of it, it is just a traditional boozer with slightly shabby decor. The difference was the way we were treated - the staff were lovely and bought drinks to our table. The beer was well kept and they had a selection of great ales (Flowers, Pride, Greene King). The food was the standard pub thai stuff, very pleasant and again nicely served.

The place was nicely full on a Tuesday and the local ladies darts team was even playing. This is a prime example of a good old fashioned boozer that just offers that little bit extra.

Really welcoming friendly pub. Table service and excellent, authentic Thai food. One of the few pubs in the area where I, as a woman, feel comfortable turning up by myself.

A great traditional pub tastefully decorated, with friendly staff offering table service, delicious food, and good beer. The music adds to the warm feel of the pub. Drop in, you won't be disappointed!

An excellent pub, good beer, friendly staff and table service when quiet. A must try
Andy - 19 May 2004 08:21
another great london boozer with good ale and decent tucker. quite a few pubs in this area make for a fair pub crawl before staggering to the station 4 the train home
fat dog - 11 Apr 2004 20:21
Friendly staff, warm welcome without being intrusive. Comfortable surroundings with nice artwork, which is all for sale as an interesting diversion. Beautiful food which is ordered at and delivered to your table along with your drinks. Altogether a very nice experience.
Karen Burrowes - 29 Mar 2004 13:29
Proper old London boozer. None of your theme pub pretensions here, just wood panelling, warm and friendly bar staff, fantastically well kept beer, a large selection of fine wines and spirits and great Thai food. Music was pretty good too!
Simon - 7 Mar 2004 22:26
Finally, a pub that does table service! Good music and nice vibe. Stayed all night.
Tom Helliwell - 4 Feb 2004 23:25
Excellent thai food. Good music & friendly staff. Worth a visit
