'Orrible. Should have closed sooner. Now replaced with a hugely overpriced "Balans". Won't go there either. This just attracts more "la-de-da's". I've lived close-by for years, and have seen the area change.
Stabbings outside McDonalds on an all too regular basis, with groups of kids from Hammersmith, Richmond, on mountain bikes causing trouble.
50 yards up the road, this latest incarnation on the Jack Stamps site attracts the other end of the market. People who think they're better than you for whatever reason really get my goat......

The site where Jack Stamps was is now occupied by a coffee bar / restaurant called Balans. Those of you who are familiar with this stretch of the Chiswick High Road will know that the area is not exactly short of such type of places. The yuppies rule in Chiswick, I'm afraid

Well, would you believe it - first time that I go and visit this pub and what happens ? there are notices on the windows saying "CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE"
Peering through the window, I am approached by a passer by who tells me that the management never spent any money on the pub and it was getting rather tatty and run down. He tells me that last time he visited, his chair collapsed under him. He then ends by saying - " people won't put up with this in Chiswick, it's an up and coming area, you know". Classic !

Never got to like this pub since it changed hands. The Windmill (Fullers) that used to stand here was a great pub with brilliant characters and was much better in its design. Ahhh....those were the days! Jack Stamps - nahhh!

Real people? Come on, working folk are just as phoney as the middle classes. And I earn jack but I sure as hell don't find this place welcoming. Would rather go here than All Bar One across the road though.

By Chiswick standards this place is bit scary. Makes a change from the All bar One set.

Pubs like this are weird. Who decided that this was a good location for a pub? Was it a concept? Did it figure in the original brief or was it added on later? For those of you confused study the picture closely. This is no mere 1980's folly. This pub is actually part of a block of flats. This happens more than you would think. It's not always flats, it can be a shopping precinct too. The result is always the same. A lifeless physical manifestation of pure depression.
Good for: Alcoholics

It smells of p*ss and is full of alchoholics. The toilets look like something out of an indian mud hut. Don't go there.

Packed with working class northern types.Oh joy.

Fantastic pub with real working class atmosphere. Very friendly people and dead cheap (1.30 for a pint of bitter) drinks. A must for any uprooted Northener searching for a taste of home.
