The Society Rooms is Macclesfield's branch of Wetherspoon's. Bouncers were on the door on my Saturday night visit. There was a mix of both young and older drinkers. The key attraction here is the drinks range and the prices. The usual 'spoon's mainstays were all on - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. Guests were Marston's Old Empire, Oakham Inferno, Exmoor Gold & Beast, Titanic White Star, Ringwood Forty Niner & Evan Evans Wrecker. I was suitably impressed by the cider range - Orchard Pig The Hogfather, Weston's Old Rosie & Rosie's Pig, Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon, Thistly Cross Whisky Cask & Broadoak Moonshine. I opted for the Moonshine having not had that for a while. The table was sticky. In fact, the whole place had a bit of a grubby feel to it. As usual, toilets were up a rather large staircase. You know what you get with this chain.

On a recent trip to Macclesfield, my wife and I paid several visits to the Society Rooms. It's a building with character and certainly very spacious but I don't feel that Wetherspoon's have done a terribly good job of converting it. The lighting seemed bright and the wood panelling looked a bit cheap. Overall the pub doesn't have a cosy ambience. Nevertheless, the beer and food were perfectly fine, and the service was always friendly.

Average 'Spoons, which is a good thing - very good beer quality, as well as the usual decent food. Clean and welcoming as well.

Not a bad place, friendly doorstaff and bar workers. Ale wasnt bad, but expected it to be more full on a Friday night. Think everyone else was heading elsewhere.

Gr8 prices. 1.65 for a pint of fosters but take u r ID with you if your under about 30. Service is ridiculously slow but everyone starts the night there.

Pleasant enough place but never, ever enough staff to cope...slowest service in Macc regardless of amount of customers. (25 mins at bar is my all time worst!)

It's good, but not the best weatherspoons in the world. You can't argue with the prices, but it might take you a while before you can get to the bar to sample them. Good starter for a night out.

Spoons is fantastic, cheap to get pissed and the best place to start the night.

Macclesfield's own Branch of J.D. Weatherspoons - cheap pints, shots, and ale, and room for many.
