This is a fairly typical Wetherspoons pub in terms of frontage and layout - not a complaint, just an observation.

Plenty of ales to choose from at the bar, including a chalk board listing the Christmas ales selection. I went for a pint of the Festive Thirty Five by Titanic Brewery, at 5.0% and priced at £2.45. It was quite cloudy when settled and quite hoppy. Very pleasant and of course an absolute bargain.

Staff I found to be friendly and chatty. Shame I couldn't stay and sample all the ales!

A good Wetherspoon's pub within tottering range of my accommodation. Had final pints & dinner on both days I was in Scarborough, Bombardier @ 2.20 on day one to wash down a pretty good hot dog. My notes on day two suggest the pint was "mystery", not sure if that was a brand or a brain fade. Anyhow it was OK with a steak. While I would never consider a session in a Wetherspoon's, their consistent offerings are a boon for tourists without imagination. Like me.

Not too bad of a Witherspoons. Food OK, staff a bit grumpy. Manager did nothing to stop a couple of deadlegs constantly pestering customers for money.

We had a disagreement with one of the bar staff who insisted that food finished at 10.45 and not 11 as it states on the posters, so we left and went for a curry!

Popped in while waiting for a train - must have been 7-8 ales on the go (how many pubs in Scarborough offer that and at those prices?). I had Wooden Hand Cornish Knocker which was well kept and very drinkable.

A very typical weatherspoons. Busy and noisy on a Friday afternoon. As ever too many "available soon" beers (why in such a busy establishment). Titanic White Star was good. Wold Top Anglers Revenge not at its best. Best thing is its well placed for the station for a quick one befre getting the train

Usual Wetherspoons formula ie old building looking nice on the outside, huge stripped-out inside and refitted with Wetherspoons panelling and old town pictures etc. Beer was fine but down of a choice of about 4 by 10pm on a Saturday night in September. Nothing out of the ordinary except upstairs with hole in floor to look down from.

Since my last scathing review there has been some improvement in the staffing situation. There seem to be more staff behind the bar now and they have some idea of which order to serve those who have been waiting. Also they are firendlier and more efficient.I will keep tabs on the situation

It's a Spoons, what more can I say, the beers were Ok but on my visit there was a desperate need for a plumbers visit to the gents piss corner, hopefully this is not an ongoing problem.

Fairly standard Wetherspoons, it's big and on 2 levels but you can enter the upper level at ground level around the side, the winos tend to inhabit the bottom floor. The Real Ale is good with a decent selection and cheap.

Came here one evening and avoided the bouncers by going through the side entrance (they look intimidating), a bit quiet but several interesting ales were on tap as well as the usual GK - I've been here for the odd pint or two on trips up here and I've never had a bad pint plus it's less than 2/pint - I've been to bad Wetherspoons before but this isn't one of them.

Wetherspoons chain pub. Beer kept in bad condition, poor service and lousy food. An all-round JDW classic!

Went in yesterday lunchtime (Saturday). Good selection of Real Ale due to the International Beer Festival. Good freindly bar staff were on duty.

If this isn't the worst Wetherspoons in the country it's certainly making a gallant bid. Tuesday lunchtime, every table dirty and sticky and it was reasonably quiet. The useless pink haired git behind the bar only had 3 people at the bar and managed to serve a person who arrived after the rest of us first, we walked out. Total crap, avoid it.

Inviting-looking Wetherspoons not far from the train station.

Disappointed on a Friday night to see most of the real ale lines out of action for 'cleaning' (didn't see much evidence of that). Poor show really - I could understand it on a Monday!

Inside of the place is fairly-well kitted out and of course the prices are cheap - but cheap prices are only good if the beer you want to buy is available!

Probably worth popping your head round the door to see what's on but there are better bets nearby.

was served wrong pitcher of cocktail, when we told the bar maid she was very rude wouldn't give us the correct drink ordered,(she put malibu in the "woo woo"instead of archers!"when we asked to speak to manager, she declared she was, asked for her name, again she wouldn't comply.anyway we now miss out this dirty pub with the very rude staff on our saturday nights out, their loss, hope this rude managers boss is reading this she has blonde hair and about 40 years old.

It's a Wetherspoons and not a particularly good one, so you can't get served half of the time. Upstairs is usually a bit quieter, but not much. We have left several times recently. This is a long standing issue that never seems to get resolved. Takings improve if people can get beer, therefore you can afford more staff at busy times!! This is not rocket science.

I hope the licensee reads these reviews and does something about the service,or lack of it.There are never more than 2 prople on and they are continually disappearing to take food orders or for other unfamothable reasons.the staff are inexperienced and have no idea who is next,as an experienced bar person would. If there is a crowd waiting at the bar forget it and go elsewhere.A pity as they have an excellent rannge of competatively priced real ales.

Very grand looking pub opposite the station, with a large selection of real ales.

However, I endorse the other comments about the service. It really was a farce in there where they had one barman trying to serve about six people whilst other members of staff strolled about collecting and cleaning glasses.

I have noticed this staffing problem in other Wetherspoons pubs and they ought to do something about it.
davidchar - 28 Aug 2008 07:52
Good choice and quality of beer for a sppons just a pity it's the usual dire situation when waiting to get served.
brianthelion - 28 Jul 2008 13:22
I called on the last day of their festival, and only IPA and Pedigree on. Asked why when the festival was still current and was told by the girl serving that she was not allowed to put new beers on so I left.

Was in at Easter - very busy but server reasonably quick. Typical Weathersponns - nice & cheap !!
booza - 26 Mar 2008 10:28
I stopped in for a pint while waiting for the train. Pretty standard pub style, but clean and nice.
lisac83 - 1 Feb 2008 19:00
Very pleasant, quite roomy, pub, not very far from the railway station. It's a Wetherspoon's Pub and has a good menu. A decent selection of vegetarian options, which I liked. Friendly staff and good service. Worth a visit.

Typical Wetherspoon pub, Cheap and afordable with reasonable food and a good choice of beers.

Busy at weekends but given the size there's always room to get a seat. Typical starting place for pub crawl around town, also good meeting place given the proximity to the station.
skinnedpuppy - 4 Jul 2007 16:29
wetherspoon pub. nicely kept pub considering how well-used it is.
I was very impressed with the meal deals, and large range of quality cask beers at around 1.65 a pint.
excellent!
visited during the day. may be a different story in the evenings.

reynard - 18 Jun 2007 17:53
Spelled The Lord Rosebery. Big Wetherspoon's "free house" with a bar upstairs as well as downstairs. 12 cask ales were on when I was there, quite impressive. For some reason the ales were nearly room temperature downstairs, while they were quite cold upstairs. Annoying fruit machines that no-one used when I was there, T.G. Decent food.

Yypical Weatherspoons - Cheap & Cheerfull
