The Rising Sun, Hurley

The Rising Sun has just been taken on by a new landlord and after closing for a couple of days for some serious cleaning and some initial redecorating, opened again on Friday June 1st 2007.

John (the new landlord) plans for it to be a welcoming village pub with a community atmosphere and intends to offer wholesome pub grub (i.e. a village pub that does food, not a gastro pub) as soon as the kitchen is upgraded to how he wants it.

With low ceilinged (is that a word?) bar and a garden set back away from the road, the Rising Sun is within walking distance of Hurley lock and the ruins of the old Benedictine monastery. Dog friendly (for friendly dogs!), walkers, cyclists and families welcome.

Currently offering Stella, Fosters, London Pride, cider, a selection of wines (by the glass or bottle), bottled lagers and beer alongwith the usual suspects for spirits and softies.

The new landlord is my cousin, so my rating is inevitably biased, but I base it on what I saw on the opening night with a warm welcome from returning old customers, another rating will depend on what he does when he gets the kitchen working.

I know about the cleaning and redecorating first hand as we spent much of the last week with mops and paintbrushes - but I hope his offer of free stella to me in exchange for a helping hand was not the reason he ran out of Stella late on Sunday night. :-)
