Profile information

I like real beer, not many lagers.
I collect bakelite and old cyclopaedia and dictionaries.
One cyclopaedia from the 1920s had instructions for making beer taste like lager, add water.

Hen and Chickens, Bolton

On a recent visit the guest ales seemed to be too cold. The pumps had colourful plastic things through which the ale was poured. When the monumental head subsided I had just over 2 thirds of a pint in the glass.
Food still excellent.

The Heaton Park, Bowker Vale

One of those unfortunate pubs that thinks it is running a disco, very loud music, TV, staff don't know what real ale is.
The restaurant attached is good. Amazing turn ove in staff though. Been going there about six times a year for nearly twenty years and seldom been served by the same member of staff twice.

The Trackside, Bury

Lovely place, good beers well kept. Friendly staff.
Quick service, food delivered fast even though place was full (we had to share a table).
Good continental lagers for non-drinkers.
