I've transfered my affections from the sadly declining Howcroft to here. I've always found the beer to be first class, the staff friendly and attentive and the atmosphere pleasant, always important in a town center pub.

Beer is ridiculously cold, measues are poor & staff are surly. Range of beers in this once fine pub is now nothing special. The Sweet Green is now the best Real Ale pub in Bolton.

I cannot believe some of the comments posted about what is probably the best Real Ale pub in Bolton. We visit most Saturday lunchtimes and we have never been greeted with anything but a friendly welcome, superb choice of real ales and brilliant food.

This is not really a pub at all at lunchtimes turning instead to a restaurant with a bar. Drinkers are made to feel most unwelcome at most of the tables because they are occupying space intended for diners. The beers are served far too cold & the range of real ales is not as good as in the past - the Cains mild appears to be no longer available. The food seems to have a good reputation locally but is very ordinary.
