The Phoenix Inn, Twyford

On the B3335 road from Winchester to Fair Oak the Phoenix appears in the Lucky Dip Section of my 2005 Edition and I suggest well merits promotion to the Main Section.
Very ably run by husband and wife team of Paul and Emma this 17th century building has stayed in the old tradition of being the local pub with no pretensions to be anything else,
A charming pub interior with plenty of red lamps around, a large log fire and a warm welcome from Paul behind the bar for regulars and newcomers alike.
Our families' four teenage grandchildren love going there with us..
I can't speak for the beer but from the amount consumed and its coverage in Lucky Dip, it must be good.
The wine choice is excellent and good value. The champagne is eminently drinkable, also good value. My wife declares Paul's Shandy "the best in the world".
The occasionally changing Menu has many subtleties, in addition to all the usual pub snacks very well done and generous but additionally such dishes as Moules, duck, lamb, superb all day breakfast, outstanding lasagne, 100 per cent beef burger, good steaks etc, plus Daily Specials, with a real home-made feel to everything.
There are themed evenings and. special events. There is a pool table, bowling alley and capability of catering for parties. Also a garden area with tables and seating, a well conceived smokers' area, and not forgetting that essential for these days, a large car park.
Quite a favourite of ours!!
