The White Horse, Welwyn

I love this pub, its just a shame its 5miles from where I live! It's a cosy 17th century coaching inn tucked away down a side street in the village. In the evening it attracts a real mix of people, from young drinkers, to businessmen and older regulars. Its always busy which means there is a bit of a buzz. There is an open fire at one end which gives a real homely feel. The beer is exceptionally good quality, they serve a good range of draught beers including Hoegaarden (they pre chill the glass for you) and Leffe. They put on an occasional beer or cider festival which are great, prices are reasonable for this area too.

The Red Lion, Welwyn

I've been to the Red Lion a couple of times now since the refurbishment, and can confirm the prices have gone up quite dramatically e.g. 10+ for burger and chips, that said the quality is good and the staff are friendly, its less family orientated but feels more gastro. The only issue I have is the draught beer range is too limited to niche premium imported lagers, Peroni is ok but to have along side it 2 Grolsch variants, Budvar, Pilsner Urquell. As the brands are so similar its unlikely they all have enough demand to keep the quality good. Previously they sold just sold Staropramen and Stella which were much better.
