This pub has a lovely atmosphere. It is clear that the bar staff (with the odd exception) are not as competent as could or should be. I came in with my better half and a couple of friends to try the steak night a couple of wednesdays ago (steak, 2 sides, sauce drink £14) and it has to be, the best steak I have ever eaten in many many years. The cut of meat is good, however we all had our steaks cooked differently and every single one has been spot on, perfectly seasoned and the peppercorn sauce... exquisite! Wednesdays at the white horse... have vowed to go back every week! ilovesteak - 20 Jun 2011 01:15
It's a good little pub still retaining a traditional feel. They serve a good pint of Adnams and seem to do a good trade. Sunday lunch carvery is good although the choice of veg for a roast is a bit odd - cauliflower cheese?!! The pub would be greatly improved if they didn't switch the dreaded music on. Often there is a middle aged clientele in there and they have to talk above the dreadful "background music". Why do pubs do it and in particular, why does this pub do it? Tewin - 23 Mar 2011 07:57
Still is the best pub for beer in Welwyn village. has changed since the landlord changed. On the plus side, the guest beers are frequent, but on the negative, it's quite chaotic, and most of the staff seem to have nevered worked in a pub before. Agree with the locals point made earlier, and I'm a local! beer_snob - 10 Mar 2011 19:07
Probably the best pub for beer in Old Welwyn (had a nice pint of Brew Dog Trashy Blonde) but the locals look at any 'outsiders' as an inconvenience - continuing to engage in conversation with barstaff while people are waiting to get served. The pub is okay, the beer is okay, staff okay (in difficult circumtances) - the ignorant punters are the only thing that make me mark it so low. Snarling_Mallard - 5 Feb 2011 22:01
I have to disagree with 2 previous reviews. This cracking little pub is a hidden gem, and the food and service is brilliant, best its ever been. The father/son owners are great guys, and very welcoming. welwynlocal - 11 Aug 2010 15:35
