The Plough Inn, Horsell

The pub has recently changed hands, and unfortunately the excellent pies provided by the previous licensees are off the menu.

I visited with my wife for Sunday lunch and we chose the roast beef, which was a good - if standard - pub meal.

What let this visit down was the service, which included a barmaid asking me if Budweiser Budvar is the same as, "normal Budweiser". Fortunately the 6X and the Budvar (served as two halves due to excessive head!) were in excellent condition.

As we were finishing our meal and drinks (and the pub was filling up with lunch latecomers) , the landlady came across to our table and informed us that we had to move as she had apparently told us that our table was reserved. There were three set and reserved tables but ours was not one of them, and the the only thing the landlady had previously spoken to us about was what we'd like to eat! It should be pointed out that our table had not been set and there were no signs indicating a reservation.

We said that we were not aware of a reservation and drank up and left. Unfortunately The Plough has lost two customers as we spent £28 and were then rushed to move elsewhere; and the food is now very similar to that of other establishments who value their customers.

Drinks: good condition.
Food: good.
Service: disappointing.
