| What a shame! A recent discovery, on first impressions, the Plough is ideal. There is a selection of good beers (varies) and a huge menu .. but, the food is so disappointing! A sign by the door implies the food is worth waiting for. It's not!!! We've eaten at the Plough 4-5 times now and every time has been a let down so it's now off our "places to eat" list. The "home made" pies are not much to write about, the meat content tiny diced pieces. The burger I had last weekend was simply disgusting, like a cheap burger van. The chips undercooked and from a freezer, not "home made". The landlord is fairly miserable too and our request to turn either the plasma TV or the music down (both blaring away in competition) was met with a moan despite there being no-one in the room except an old regular propping up the bar. The music choice is fairly depressing too, reminding me of the Harry Enfield "Smashy & Nicey" scene where his wife left him. The beer was well kept and we'll still stop by for a refreshing pint when we pass but it's off my list of destinations to grab a pub meal. There is a sign just inside the kitchen door says "no bar staff allowed in kitchen". Perhaps the landlord should let one in as an experiment, they may be able to prepare some half decent grub! | Easily missed pub on the edge of the common. Always makes an effort with the real ale. Food is overpriced for what you get, although a great range of pies. Has free wi-fi apparently fatcats - 20 Jul 2008 15:21 |
| I went to this pub today for lunch for the first time after reading good reviews about it. I have to say after having high hopes for this pub - good selection of guest ales, homemade food etc - both myself and my husband were thoroughly disappointed! We went on a Wednesday lunch time and, including myself and husband, there were only about 4 people in the pub. We ordered a jacket potatto with chilli and a BLT baguette - really not a difficlt order especially bearing in mind how quiet the pub was! The jacket potato was OK but the baguette had magicly become a sandwich. We accepted the fact that it could have just been human error, but when my husband started to eat it, it went from bad to worse!! The bread was soggy and wet, there was no L in the BLT ie it was a bacon and tomoto sandwich with lettuce on the side! and the crisps that were supposed to on the side was actually a very undercooked new potato!!! To make matters worse we went to pay and the landlord quite happily took our money without even so much as a "was everything OK?" or "how was your meal?" Clearly they knew exactly what we were going to say!!! To summarise:- good selection of beers, but below average food and and grumpy old misery gut for a landlord who had no people skills!!!! blondecosmogirl33 - 2 Jul 2008 14:43 |
| You have live music? Have "Rhedd" ever played there cos you're right on my doorstep - I moved to Goldsworth Park in March and saw them at O'Neills - they were brilliant. Must visit for food - mixed reviews on here, but the pub looks good from the outside and seems to be good honest English grub. Excellent. Tenacity - 30 Apr 2008 13:25 |
