The Bankhouse Inn, Pudsey

The Bankhouse, Bankhouse Lane, Pudsey has a beer garden on a couple of levels and is very popular with local families. This evening however my 5 year old, 3 stone daughter was involved in an accident there. She was leaning on one of the fences which guards against a drop of around a metre onto a concrete bench, when it gave way and she fell. She suffered only superficial cuts and bruises but this was more a matter of good luck than because of safeguards employed there. The fench was secured with old, rusty and bent screws and nails and some of the fence posts themselves are split, being held up by the layers of paint as much as anything else. I understand that my daughter's safety is not the responsibility of the pub but I believe that it is their responsibility to provide a safe environment - which they are not. When the manager, Janet Rowley arrived after I has asked to see her, she simply put her handsup defensively and said that if I had any complaints I should call the brewery. Had she apologised I may have let the matter rest but as she obviously couldn't careless about the state of her beer garden or my child I felt that I should take things further. Indeed Ms.Rowley advised me that it was not the first time this had happened although she has obviously taken no action to ensure the safety of her customers and their children.
