The Crown Inn, Stockport

One of the finest pubs in the Greater Manchester area. The beer is uniformly excellent, and the choice is outstanding. In fact, there's so much choice it's like an all-year-round beer festival. The staff are friendly and frequently funny. The pub is wonderfully Victorian both inside and out and is a joy to sit in.

The only significant downside is the unfortunate placement of the M60 motorway right at the back of the pub, which makes sitting in the cobbled area/pub 'garden' outside a noisy and sometimes smelly affair. This is a shame as the outside area is pleasant otherwise, with lovely views of Stockport's famous viaduct.

The Crown is surely worth more than the 6.1 it's currently rated at. It sets the standard for beer in Stockport and most of the North West. This soft southern jessie gives it a 9.
