The Doric Arch, Euston

This is a great pub carrying the full range of Fuller's ales and keg products plus ever changing guest ales from other Breweries. They usually have a boxed cider as well as the wines and spirits you'd expect in a pub.

The photos for this listing are out of date as the Doric had a major refurbishment a year or two ago. It is clean, maintains its rail memorabilia and has two TVs that show BT Sport and Terrestrial sporting events. Otherwise there is back ground music. It is the pub I usually go to watch rugby matches at the weekend. They no longer do Sky TV but that works for me as pesky football no longer clashes with the rugby.

It is a pub of two lives. During the week it has a regular customer base of commuters having a pint or two before catching the train home. At the weekend it is a bit more transient with people popping in as a first port of call getting off the train from the North or killing time to catch the train back.

The staff are all friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. They also offer a 15% discount for card carrying CAMRA members on the sale of ale.

The only downside is access issues for those with limited mobility. The toilets are downstairs below ground level and the pub is on the first floor. The only ground floor public footprint is the two access points.

The Bree Louise, Euston

A great pub with an ale and cider selection as eclectic as the customers. The staff are friendly and they have always been asked if I was a CAMRA member when being served. Lots of other London pubs that offer this discount usually leave it to you to ask for.

Once in a blue moon I have had a bad pint but the staff are knowledgeable enough to know it has gotten to the end of the barrel and have given me a replacement free of charge.

The only down side is the tired state of the décor of the pub and toilets but there again its lived in look has a refreshing appeal.
