The George and Dragon, Burpham

A very attractive pub with a varied menu. Went for the Times 2 for 1 offer & pleased to see that the dishes were from the lunch menu & not inferior replacements. The only disappointment was that we were refused 2 for 1 on the dessert menu, even though it was clearly stated in the offer.

The Goffs Oak, Goffs Oak

This pub has been modernised & is a shadow of it's former self. Inadequate staffing means long waiting time to be served & it has had a succession of temporary managers in recent times. Menu seems attractive but food quality is poor. Locals wish Ember Inns would sell it to someone who would staff & run it properly. The only upside is a strict "no children" rule

The Five Horseshoes, Little Berkhamsted

This has been one of my local pubs for 20 years & I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food & range of beers. I turned up with my wife for the first time this year on a Saturday evening to find a "wait to be seated" desk at the door. Ignoring this, I got drinks at the bar & was then approached by a woman who insisted on showingus to table. I then noticed that a cash till had been situated in the corner of the bar area & was told I could now order everything at my table. We ordered food - my "signature dish" pork chop had been boned & defatted & consequently was very dry. My wife's fish & chips was inedible - chips contained a bad potato, the batter was soggy & oily & the fish very dry. On leaving it, the pub didn't charge us, but we couldn't wait to leave. I'll go back when it becomes a real pub again without the pretensions.
