The Anchor Inn, Beer

We are reviewing on the basis of eating and drinking at this venue and knowing it well through having a second home in the area and a recent extremely bad experience here.

Oh my goodness, where do I start. Don't be fooled by the lovely garden location. Steer well clear. You can always sit on the beach itself to admire the pretty view, and then eat and drink (or stay) at any of the much better pubs on the 'high street'.
We encountered filthy, fly-filled toilets; dreadful food (in our opinion, the length of the multiple menus should tell you everything; and worst of all frighteningly aggressive service. Be warned, in our experience and opinion, a polite comment/request is seen as a criticism and was greeted by shouting, swearing aggressive, literally 'in your face' behaviour from the 'manager'!. Our advice would be, do not take any children here! He apparently doesn't let their presence calm his behaviour in any way. We fully intend to complain to the highest authorities regarding our experience and have started that process today.
If youre an ale fan, there are more local ales served elsewhere.
