The Old Mitre, Essington

This cosy and friendly pub has now become my regular and with good reason. The landlord cannot do enough to please his customers, from toasting pikelets (crumpets) for them on the log fire, to stocking excellent cask ales and supplying free sandwiches and scratchings to regulars. The recently opened restaurant serves very good value food as well. Despite being on a main road, this pub has all the atmosphere of an old fashioned county pub, with the added bonus of a delightful separate dining room complete with log fire and bar. The staff are well-trained and friendly. Sunday lunch is a must.
