The Wheatsheaf, Borough

My friend had to twist my arm to return to the Wheatsheaf after I gave up on it back in 2004. I'm glad he did. Every beer I sampled was in good condition and the atmosphere of old seemed to have returned. The perfect place to escape the cold.

The George Canning, Denmark Hill

London Pride was served well. Food is a mixed bag: my steak sandwich was excellent but one of my companions' had a burnt burger. Board games and a pleasant atmosphere made me feel like I could spend the rest of the afternoon here but unfortunately we had to return to work (well, by 'work', obviously I mean procrastinating and writing this review). The Fox on the Hill, Denmark Hill

I was initially very dubious of visiting the Fox on the Hill when I heard that it was a Wetherspoon's (well, they do invite comparison with McDonald's) but it wasn't too bad. The age of the building even manages to resist complete 'wetherspoonification'. We didn't wait long to be served (a Friday lunchtime) but those following us others did as our barmaid took her time and insisted on repeating everything back to us twcie - once at the point of ordering and once at the point of payment. The interesting looking range of beers went untried as I'd noticed that everyone in the pub was drinking lager. (5/10)
