The Portsmouth Arms, Basingstoke

Without a doubt the worst pub i have ever been in. Horrible food, bad beer & rude management. As a Hall & Woodhouse pub i hope they are ashamed of the way this is being run. This has the potential to be the busiest and best pub in Basingstoke

The Four Horseshoes, Long Sutton

Stay away... Worst pub ever
Drive past it every weekend to pick my daughter up from the local school and it is never open.
When it was we went in for dinner and wish we had not.
Should have realised from the Pubs name hanging from the outside wall with a letter missing.
Dirty, Grubby and stunk of chip fat from the minute we walked in.
The food was obviously microwaved but the beer was good according to the husband. Had dinner on 17th March but will not be going back.
We had lunch 1/2 mile furthur up at The Chequers the same day with friends and is a different class than this.

The Chequers Inn, Well

I ate here on Saturday 17th March 2007 for lunch and all i can say is WOW.
It is great to see a good old fashioned country pub serving good honest wholesome food with a friendly atmosphere still exsists and the place was packed.
Set in the country with a covered outside which has its own vine growing on the ceiling i thought i was on holiday.
4 of us ate and we had Creamy Tomato Soup, Gravadlax(Salmon) and Sun Blush Tomato Brucetta to start followed by House Steak, Liver and Bacon and The Ultimate Burger.
The Burger is the best i have ever tasted and it was worth the journey from London just for that. It was huge and served with the most wonderful homemade chips jusy like MUM used to make.
We finished with Sticky Toffe Pudding, Apple and Rubarb crumble and Spotted Dick all with custard....beautiful
Beer was good according to the husband although he did say as it was a Hall and Woodhouse Pub the choice was rather limited.
The pub had two open log fires which i can imagine in the winter being lovely to sit next to.
The only sour point on the day was the dour faced Australian girl who could have done with smiling a bit more but other than that it is definatly a place to go and visit
PS, Try the burger
