The Shady Oak, Tiverton

Poor old Shady Oak, once a Cheshire favourite is now in a state of tatty disrepair. Has a great canalside location with iconic views of mighty Beeston Castle. Unfortunately the beer was not in a great condition, the Cheshire Cat, light at the best of times, was watery. The place was also swarming with sticky fingered yapping children scrabbling of the dirt of the beer garden. Someone come along and save the Oak.

Beer:

Thwaites Lancaster Bomber
Lady Weetwood (Cheshire Cat)
Blacksheep

The Pheasant Inn, Tattenhall

Beautiful converted sandstone farm building. There were five real ales on when we went:
Weetwood Eastgate
Cheshire Cat (Lady Weetwood)
Weetwood bitter
Spitting feathers
Summer solstice

Sat outside and enjoyed the stunning views across the Cheshire plain (the most saltiest of all the plains). Two things detracted slightly from the Pheasant. One was the teenage barmen who didnt fill up our pints to the top and we had to tell him. Epic fail n00b all your base r etc. Secondly, that this place belongs to the Cheshire Set and we really we have neither the money nor the breeding to be here. Filled with inferiority we gave the clientele a paltry four, even though they are our social betters. Take that Major.

Bickerton Poacher, Bulkeley

Arrived in Bickerton Poacher at 2.00 after a hefty walk along the Sandstone trail from Whitchurch. The Poacher is a multiple roomed family affair let down by the distracting Grand Prix on the TV and too many children. Fairly expensive at 3.40 a price of Strongbow. Real Ale available was Old Peculiar, Speckled Hen, Caledonian Nectar and Spitfire. I had the Old Peculiar which was perfectly nice but C4Lfs resident head brewer felt his pint was too yeasty. Ordered food which comes in monstrous portions especially the legendary Big Mans mixed grill. The bar staff were delightfully surly. Theres an old fashioned skittles alley if you want some extra entertainment.
