Royal Oak, Rye

This pub is well worth a visit. Since moving to East Sussex from Bromley we have trawled the area for a good pub and came across this little gem, unspoilt, rustic, everything you would want in an traditional english rural pub but within easy reach of the beach, Rye etc so a good base as they have excellent accomodation at really reasonable rates. The food on offer is good wholesome tasty food, her pastry is to die for, I would recommend her steak and mushroom pie or pudding, people travel past many pubs to eat her food. A good night to visit too is a Tuesday evening which is an open mic night, fantastic local musicians all taking turns to play their music, some excellent talent to watch out for. Good guest beers and bitters and a lovely open fire in the winter, what more could you want?

The Fox, Keston

Most of the above is such rubbish, the Fox was dated, scruffy and was in desperate need of a revamp. It has now had a wonderful one, I have never felt so welcome in a pub, the owner is hands on as is his family and they greet customers like old friends, alot are as they were and are locals which is great. As well as the old regulars there are now new faces in there much of the time as they have heard how nice it is. Children and dogs are welcome, the food is great and the owner has emplyed some of the lovliest bar staff I have ever come across so don't be put off by the above so called reviews, the pub is now tastefully decorated with lovely comfy setees and chairs, a mix of old tables with pew chairs for meals, the loos are gorgeous, the whole pub is clean and just feels comfy, in the winter the setees are round a lovely open fire. I suggest all of the above get over to the vile Greyhound, they may be more at home over there!
