The George Canning, Denmark Hill

Well below parr food - if you're going to pitch yourself as a gastro pub (with attendant pricing) then get a proper kitchen (otherwise stick with the beer nuts!). Beer selection is poor and staff are worse. In a perfect world this place would have gone out of business within a week of opening.

The Old Dispensary, Camberwell

The food here is pretty good - and a passable selection of lagers (ie: not just stella and fosters!). The seating is really uncomfortable - particularly when eating. Seats way above table level - a killer on the back. Not somewhere you'd spend a night - ok for brunch, early evening food then bail. As pointed out elsewhere, ventiallation is dodgy - roll on smoke free pubs.

The Tiger, Denmark Hill

Complete and utter sh*thole. Scally central - how this place has managed to hang on to its licence I'll never know. Someone, somewhere must be paying someone off. Even the alkies on Camberwell Green wouldn't go in here.

The Sun and Doves, Camberwell

A query re: the S&D - why don't they offer table service in the beer garden area? Surely would improve their revenue and the staff would benefit from tips.

The Sun and Doves, Camberwell

To be fair staff situation here does seem to have improved recently but get the feeling they need a manager/supervisor to get things to gel. Food can be ok but overpriced and running out of food (it happens regularly), particularly on a Sunday which must be their prime revenue day, does not look good. The food in the Castle on Camberwell's Church St is far better - brunch there then go to S&D for the beer garden.

The Black Sheep, Camberwell

Decent decor and the outside area looks good but the food's not great - had brunch here serveral times and found it disappointing. Also would be nice not to have to listen to thumping dance music first thing in the day - wish bars would play music appropriate to clientele rather than what the bar staff want to hear (or what some anonymous suit at the brewry playlisted without ever having spent time in the pub)

The Boogaloo, Highgate

great pub with an excellent jukebox that actually plays the type of music the clientele want to hear.

The Hermits Cave, Camberwell

great traditional old boozer and excellent beer selection. Also staff really nice - other pubs in area take note. Best of all, no fruit or gaming machines.

ok beer selection, good quality food. Only complaint is the seating - it's really uncomfortable. Overall a welcome addition to Camberwell.

excellent beer garden - pubs main (perhaps only) selling point. Beer selection is awful (may be tied in to ridiculous supplier agreement as most UK pubs seem to be!), food uninspired and way over priced. But the worst thing has to be the staff - female staff tend to be rude, male staff better but serve at a snails pace. Perhaps they're heavily medicated! Also why no table service, particularly in the beer garden area.
