Red Lion, Hatfield

Incredibly slow service, the food is nice when you get it though. Staff have been known to be quite rude and offish, although usually ok on a lunchtime. The menu is quite good though, although changing the amazing chocolate orange pudding into just an orange pudding was a bad move in my opinion :)

The Compasses Inn, Ketley

Visited on a monday night. Was very nice, good service, friendly staff. They had a carvery on as well as full pub menu, the carvery was delicious! Quite quiet, and the back room with the food was very pleasant.

The Eight Bells, Old Hatfield

This place is better now it's had a makeover. It does food again now, although the options are pretty limited, and I wasn't impressed with my steak. It doesn't do *any* vegetarian mains, the only thing it really does that is vegetarian is cheese sandwich. It appeared to have a jukebox, although I don't know if anyone was actually using it or if it was the choice of the bar staff but they had early 90s dance on the other day.

I would say, if you want a good meal, go to the Horse and Groom round the corner, but if you want a pint try here, I think it's better kept and has a good selection of bar nibbles.

The Brew Wharf, London Bridge

Nice beer, but like that anonymous person said, watch out for thieves - my friend's bag got stolen, it was very upsetting. You just don't expect these things to happen in such an open plan place. They need to improve security a bit, it's very frustrating.

The Crooked Chimney, Welwyn Garden City

It is now apparantly non-smoking, and they do Leffe. Is a nice pub, do delicious sunday lunch. Be careful if you're allergic to wheat though - their "mashed potato" is not safe, I'm told! The condition was explained to many members of staff beforehand, but they still served food that contained wheat products.

The Horse and Groom, Hatfield

Nice little local pub. Does fantastic pub food, I recommend the Steak and Ale Pie with chips and peas. Is very cosy and has open fires in winters. Only serves food during lunch I think, which is only until 2pm. It shows sport on the television. Has a beer garden. Does Guinness, although it's not terribly well kept. Nice friendly staff.

The Hollybush, Welwyn Garden City

Never been in, as it looks like too much of a scary "local" pub, but looks quiet enough and has pool table.

The Plume Of Feathers, Tewin

Has a very good menu - really delicious (and fairly pricey) food. Good little wine list. Seems very nice and relaxed place to have lunch.
