The Fox Inn, Cane End

The Fox is no more. It has been turned into an Indian restaurant.

The Barley Mow, Clifton Hampden

It's a good job the cask mark inspectors haven't been here on a couple of recent Mondays. The Broadside has been fine, but the guest ales have probably been on a day or two too long on my last couple of visits. Still, the food was good, although they're just about to change the specials menu and most of the choices were off; just poor timing on our part?

The Stage Door, Victoria

In here at lunchtime following the rain at The Oval in the last test. No real ale on, but the Guiness was OK. Think the staff must have been fresh on that day though: service VERY slow and simple.

The Swan, Pangbourne

Went in the Swan today for the first time in a couple of years; it hasn't changed much over time. The comments from recent reviewers sum it up well.

It's a pity that places in this type of location aren't run with a bit more vision or passion. I guess the pubco that owns it are happy with their returns, but probably don't realise its full potential.

Cormorant, Portchester

Four of us went here for lunch late last week. Between us we had the local sausages in a yorkie, ploughmans, chilli, gammon/egg/chips; all were good quality, huge portions, & fresh (unlike many other pubs I could name!!).

Beer choice was good: Sharps Doom Bar (good pint), Summer Lightning (my mate thought it nice), Gales HSB & one other.

Sun was out so we sat on the terrace. Good sized car park. Would expect this place to be VERY busy at weekends.

The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale

Nipped in here for the first time in a few years last Wednesday. Lots of real ales, but a bit disappointed that they were nearly all ordinary bitters: Jennings Cumberland, Theakston XB, Black Sheep Bitter & Ale (one pint - Ok), Yates Bitter(two pints - very good); there was only Old Peculiar representing anything a bit different. Personally I would like to see a range of beers if so many are on tap; a mild, porter or IPA would be nice to try, depending on what you feel like coming off the hills.
