The Gardeners Arms, Cheddar

Back to Cheddar we came with dog in tow and back to the Gardeners Arms for a rest full weekend. I just love this place, its relaxing and I couldnt wait for another game of skittles. The dog was welcomed with a blanket and a bucket of toys which he thought was great.

The food was spot on as it always is. The Salsa Rump was to die for and the African Lamb was melt in your mouth. I cant find a bad word to say about the Gardeners Arms. I wish they were at the bottom of my road!

Thanks to the skittles team who taught us a few moves. We are getting better slowly. Hopefully see you soon

The Burtle Inn, Burtle

We found this pub only by accident as we managed to get very lost!!!!
Looks lovely from the outside!! Different story when you walk in. Its very dull and dark. We asked to see the menu and we were handed a fist full of printed papers. There must of been at least 5 different menus not including the black boards around the bar. My husband ordered the Stilton Ploughmans at 9.00!! it consisted of a large amount of stilton a leap salad garnish and some onions in a jar which were clearly fermenting. We asked for more onions to which the waiter replied thats all we have and the chef said they were ok. I had the Chilli which was clearly just a cooking sauce I had a job to find any meat but I would say if you like Kidney beans then go for it. I must have had at least 10 in ever spoonful!! Not impressed,

The Gardeners Arms, Cheddar

Stopped of in Cheddar on our way back home and stopped at the Gardeners Arms for yet another fantastic meal.
Since our last visit the owners have jazzed up the restuarant which I must say looks great. ( Loved the colours, very warm feeling ) If your into Game and Exotic meats this is the place to go. With choices like Venison, Pheasant, Rabbit, Wild Boar and Ostrich we were spoiled for choice.
My husbard went for the Wild Boar Pie and I choose the Tornados Rossini. To finish we enjoyed homemade Lemon Cheesecake and Apple, Pear and Blackberry Tart. 10 out of 10 to the Gardeners. In my view this is the only place to eat locally. Will see you in December on our way down to Devon.

Riverside Inn and Restaurant, Cheddar

I totally agree with cleaveman and totally disagree with awkward. The Gardeners Arms is a fantastic place to visit with charming staff, great food and its CLEAN.

From what I have seen of the other pubs in Cheddar its no wonder its the highest rated.

As for the Riverside well what can I say. Young customers half of which look under age, food not good, cider undrinkable. Take it from me if you visit stick to the garden!!!

The Gardeners Arms, Cheddar

What a great find. On the back streets of Cheddar is a lovely old fashion pub with brasses and old black and white phtos of Cheddar. Its clean and tidy with more than helpful staff who are willing to answer any question and are more than happy to talk to you even if you are a tourist. Good selection of real ales lots of homemade dishes on the menu. Food fantasic probably the best meal ive eaten in a pub for a very long time. Well done this is denfinately my kind of pub. Will see you next time we pass though Cheddar.

The White Hart, Cheddar

I agree with onlyrealbeer comments. The building itself is lovely, car park small, staff to busy texting instead of serving. Food long wait and not very impressive. Beer not good. The locals clearly dont like tourist being in there pub. Definately not going in there again.

The Star Inn, Star

while holidaying in this beautiful part of the country my husband and I stopped here for a bite to eat. I have to say the staff were unfreindly like it was too much bother for them to serve us and as for the food well I serve up better food to my dog!!!!

The chicken was pure white which clearly hadnt seen a frying pan and only the inside of a microwave. The steak which I asked for to be cooked rare was well done!!

Without a word of a lie the worse pub meal I have ever had the mis fortune in being served. A must to avoid.
