The Gate, Bricket Wood

Friendly but missing the warmth of a 'local' pub. Music was too loud in the dining area... hard to have a conversation. Food varied in quality... from great (weekday menu) to okay (Sunday menu). And they quit serving food rather early... call first or you may be disappointed. Decent selection of ale's.

Moor Mill, Bricket Wood

Spent 3 weeks here in the winter... the pub is attached to the restaurant and is just across the parking lot from the hotel... so very handy. Small, dark, and only busy on New Year's and Friday nights while I was there. Good selection of beer; most of the staff was friendly; and if you choose carefully can get a good meal. No average age range.

The Falcon, St Albans

A great village pub... average crowd 40ish, outside covered smoking area, good selection of beers, and the music isn't too loud... owner, staff, and crowd friendly... even to a wayward American that is new to the village. I like old planes... lots of pictures of them and of the village on the wall. Darts, too. Pub snacks available but not food.
