Grain Barge, Bristol

Another cracking pub. Ales well cared for and jazz downstairs. Though we were there on a flying visit. Staff attentive. Very clean venue.

The Bag O' Nails, Bristol

Amazing pub. Really pleased made the effort to walk down to it. 6 pumps on from variety of breweries. Nice little touch such as putting out little glasses of each ale so that you could see if they were pale, dark etc. Really friendly bar staff and customers with great advice and directions to other real ale houses. Only tasted 3 of the ales. all well cared for. I cant rate this place enough!!

The Coronation Tap, Clifton

I must have made a huge mistake then (re: cider). I went with my on a real ale break over the easter weekend around bristol. We tried to get into the back door of this pub which looked great and walked a couple of streets to get into the other door. The bouncer on the door looked groweled at us. Saw what the bar had on which was the usual suspects and the pub was very loud with dance music. Turned on our heels. On the way out the bouncer said "something wrong?" I said we were trying the real ale pubs in town while on holiday but have tried these ones before. We were then told to "f*ck off to a real ale pub then" Nice. Really Nice. Pub was ok. Bouncer agressive and really intimidating.

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

Hellish!! Amazingly over priced ale. Yes, I know we are paying for the location by the river but come onHow can most of the real ale pubs in town can charge LESS than the Cutty? I asked the moody/quirky barman why the price had increased to 3.25 for a pint of tribute. I was told it was the budget and it was usual for the pub to increase their prices in advance because we knew it was going to go up anyway! The place is a disaster beer is relatively cared for but just the usual suspects on tribute, London pride and Adnams. This is a free house and would do well changing the beer or at least being honest and saying they dont have a guest! Food is also very over priced and mediocre. Its just sad the place is going down the pan. I live locally and now refuse to drink there. The competition round the corner is improving greatly and I hope the Pelton gives the place a run for there money.
