The Botanic Inn, Belfast

Was there a few weeks ago! An experience I won't forget in a hurry. Service was prompt, beer was dreadful and the agression from punters rivaled that of any SE London pub! Not the Bot I fondly remember. Give it a wide berth.

Donnam, look at my post on 01/11/07 (first visit) & 30/11/07 (next visit). I don't fit into any of your categories, I do however like to get out and about and try different pubs and have never denied that the One bar has potential and have recommended that it is worth a visit commenting positively on the beer. I don't see your point.I do see however that you are in the know about staff changes or perhaps you were one of the coppers that escorted that last manager.

Well said angeleyes32! Talk about waxing lyrical! Yes it is a good pub for Lewisham and the local area but certainly not the saviour of drinking in SE London that previous posters have made it out to be. A site like this needs some degree of objectivity to remain uncompromised, not undue gushing praise heaped upon a bar because either;
a) you work there
b)your mates work there
C)you own the place
d)you fancy a staff member
Trade and public use this site for a number of reasons and this drivel is not helpful. RSVP.

Made a return visit to the One last night and enjoyed a couple of good pints. There seems to have been a change in management, staff were polite, attentive and prompt in their service even though the bar was the busiest I have seen it. I saw no evidence of food on sale, shame really as I had to leave to eat or I could have spent all evening in there. I am slowly warming to this pub and certainly will be back.Keep up these high standards and the One will establish a solid customer base, as there is nothing comprable for decent folk in SE13. Pop in you'll be pleasantly surprised.Given my other postings on numerous other places this is a good recommendation.

The Woodman, Lee

Interesting comments. Amos,I'd be interested to see what you think of said establishment rather than slagging off somebody who is prepared to have their say.Have you been in it recently? For the record Darragh is 100% accurate. I have said in earlier comments that I was a regular. I enjoyed many nights in the Woodman and its rapid decline is shameful and a great loss to that end of the borough and the community that used it. This pub was at the centre of a nice community, many of its regulars are now displaced to surrounding pubs wondering where it went wrong. The answer is obvious to all except the current management.

The Princess of Wales, Blackheath

A pub that is solely making money because of its location. A grotty, untidy bar with zero customer service the abrupt and confrontational nature of the staff has to be experienced to be believed. As with previous posts a bar full of posers, plastic wannabes and the sort of people you don't want to spend your evening with.Avoid visiting.

A welcome addition to Lewisham. Will say however that it still needs to develop its niche in the market. Is it a gastro pub, sports bar or wannabe All Bar One?It certainly has potential to be a first rate watering hole. Stopped in on Tuesday night for a quick scoop, promptly served and not a bad drop either. Still lacking some atmosphere. Worth a visit if you are in the SE13 area, certainly less pretentious than similar bars in Blackheath.

Pats Bar, Enniskillen

Once the mainstay of a decent night out in 'Skin' town, wow how the mighty have fallen. The bar was grotty, the carpet sticky and the counter hadn't been wiped for some time. The customers in the top bar were more interested in knocking back as many shots as they could in as short a time as possible. The toilets were appalling. I won't be back.

Magees, Enniskillen

Had a great evening in there on Saturday night. Good crowd and a cracking pint of Carlsberg. Music just right and local crowd very friendly. I will be back.

The Daylight Inn, Petts Wood

Popped into this pub last night. Prompt service, decent beer and a nice crowd. Not a local haunt of mine but I will be back in the not so distant future.

Mos Eisley spaceport: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. This is a review by Obi-Wam Kenobi in Star Wars. he could have been looking into the Woodman last weekend.I'm exasperated.

Ah the Woodie...where did it all go wrong. Arguably one of South London's best boozers; ecletic crowd~ academics, musicians, teachers, builders even the local MP rubbing shoulders and enjoying the friendly atmosphere and the fine hospitality offered by Dermot and Caroline. Mrs Brownbottle even went so far as to describe it as being female friendly. However I must agree with darragh, it has taken a nosedive since changing owners. A brooding and tense atmosphere prevails with the under current that one wrong word and the place would erupt. Shame that so many local and loyal customers, self included have forsaken this rough diamond. I'd rather drink at home that experience this again.Shame.

The Crown, Lee

A decent enough boozer, that is 'fit for purpose'. Have been here with Mrs Brownbottle and enjoyed a few scoops... that was all we could afford (West end prices in SE12!.
