The Royal Oak Inn, Meavy

Just got back from a week in Dartmoor and revisited this pub on the basis of the info that children are allowed. ITS TRUE!!! kids can go in one of the bars but not the other, but in fact it was such a lovely day we all sat outside and had a brilliant lunch with a great glass of Jail Ale. Warm welcome, what a pleasure. I'm upping my rating.

The Royal Oak Inn, Meavy

I agree that the food and beer here were great last time I visited, however that hasn't been for about 6 years as that's how long it's been since we haven't been allowed in with children! Can't understand this very blinkered attitude, especially in a national park tourist area.

The Plume Of Feathers, Princetown

This used to be such a brilliant pub, with fantastic food and drink and a really welcoming feeling about it. Their syrup sponge pudding with clotted cream was better than........! Then it got sold a few years ago and taken over by new people who seemed to have more sophisticated plans. Result? A posh (pretentious) menu full of stuff you don't want after a walk on the moor, and a far less welcoming feeling. We drink at the Prince of Wales now - food there isn't as good as it used to be at the Plume, but it's much the better bet now. NB we last went to this pub Easter 2008, so if there's been a radical improvement since then, I'll take it all back with great pleasure, and I'll give an update after this Easter!

The Saddlers Arms, Ripley

Our local, and a nice little pub. Good food and beer, and very welcoming to children too (no playground any more, which is a pity, though). Haven't tried the pizzas, as they seem quite pricey, and anyway the rest of the menu is always great.

The Anchor, Wisley

We've been to this pub many times since refurb (also many times before!) and it's one of our favourites for food & drink. It's almost always full, so you have to give your name and party size to the host, but we've always been called within about 15 mins and once you have a table the food comes really fast. Food is great, lots of chioce and large portions. They welcome children too, and there's a small playground (you need to supervise small children) outside. In the nice weather the location is superb - sit outside and watch the ducks and the canal boats etc. Beer is good too - always at least one great real ale. Can't understand what's causing all these bad reviews!

The Seven Stars, Ripley

Visited yesterday lunchtime, and the place was open even though New Year's Day, which was a plus. The first thing the landlord said was that the pub would be closing soon "as we keep traditional hours here" which wasn't so welcoming! He told us on at least one other time that he'd be closing soon. Food took a 30 mins to come, which was a shame, as it was only 2 jacket potatos and a bowl of soup. However when it came it was very good and very large portions. Athmosphere dated and scruffy, though, so we won't go again. Spitfire good.
