French House, Soho

Brendan Behan, Tommy Cooper and Suggs have all drunk here.....frankly, that's good enough for me. Great olives on the bar as well.

The Ship, Soho

Probably the best pub in the world........

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

Decent place for a station boozer, good pint of Fuller's Discovery.
I'm going to go off tangent a bit here - does anyone else remember about 15-20 years ago before Paddington station was a plush as it is now, there was a ropey little boozer called - I think - The Kings & Queens, but I could be wrong. It was like walking into an episode of Minder or The Sweeney, it was wide but shallow (i.e when you walked in you were practically at the bar), dark, smoky and full of blokes who looked like down at heel Faces-era Rod Stewarts dressed in shabby suits with shiny arses and grubby collars, and they sold Younger's Tartan on tap (classy....) and dubious looking sausage rolls and Scotch eggs from a not-very-hygenic looking pyrex box on the bar. Great days, modern kids don't know they're born.......

The Hog in the Pound, Bond Street

I have heard that this place is closing ?
Shame if it does, good boozer (I've got a soft spot for "triangular" pubs on the corner of blocks). It may not mean too much too many other people, but this is where Shane MacGowan asked Cait O'Riordan to join The Pogues bak in 1982.

The Three Greyhounds, Soho

Good Soho boozer in a great location. Good beers, and very reasonably priced wine (especially considering the location). Small interior, but tables on the street for summer al-fresco drinking and Soho people watching. Staff can be a bit surly, but that's not unusual in this part of town.

The Argyll Arms, Oxford Circus

Because of it's location, a good starting point for a crawl around Soho, but also an oasis from the chaos of Oxford Street. Great interior with lots of mahogany and glass, and several little nooks and crannies. Can get very busy. Beer normally very good, and a good place to stand outside in the summer and enjoy people watching.

De Hems, Soho

What a fantastic place. I discovered it by accident about 13 years ago and have been hooked ever since. Amazing range of Dutch/Belgian beers - but be warned, many of them are very, very strong.... Always seems to be busy, but atmospheric none the less and service does not suffer. One of life's great pleasures is to stand outside on a summer's afternoon, enjoying a pint and the various aromas that waft over from Chinatown before heading off for some Peking Duck or similar.

The Bridge Inn, Isleworth

Terrific place - regular pre-match haunt when going to Twickenham. About a 30 minute walk to the ground so close enough, but not so close that it gets too cramped before a game. Good Guinness and London Pride, and the Thai food in the restaurant is fantastic (excellent value and service as well).
