McSorleys, Glasgow

I love this place - it's in an ideal location and is great for meeting your mates for a few drinks and some food. Friendly staff and as stated in the previous comment....no TV for the footy!!

Harvies Showbar, Paisley

Not a bad place...staff are friendly enough and they serve a good range of drinks at reasonable price. The one downside is the crap MTV they have blaring out on two plasma screens...not really everyone's taste and there doesn't seem to be any variation in the channel shown. Despite that, this is probably the closest pub I have to a "local" since I moved up to Scotland 6 months ago.

The Bull Inn, Paisley

I wasn't really that impressed by this pub. Situated in the heart of Paisley town centre, it is always rammed full, but to be honest, I can't see why. Service and staff are average and the range of drinks served is good, but nothing out of the ordinary. As for the food, don't bother - overpriced and barely edible. I did try it again after my first disappointment, just in case it was a one-off, but alas, it was just as unappetising. Probably just worth going in here if you are with a group of mates and just want to hang out, but definitely don't have the food!

The Lab, Glasgow

Great little pub, perfectly situated down an alley just off Buchanan Street. I have been here quite a few times now and have never been disappointed. Staff are always very friendly and helpful, background music is excellent (and played at just the right level), and the food is very good. This is a great place to meet for pre-gig drinks, or if you just fancy a quiet afternoon chilling with your mates. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, and as dontbuffmypylon states, there is no pretentiousness at all. Definitely one place that I would recommend to everyone. There is also outside seating for the smokers, or anyone who wants a bit of fresh air. The best pub I've been to in Scotland so far.

The Old Ale Emporium, Harringay

I love this pub! It looks great now the front smoking section is open and the inside is being revamped. It's going to be fantastic when it's all complete and the new floor and furniture are in place. It's brilliant that Dave, Hazel and the girls are staying...the place wouldn't be the same without them.

The Garden Ladder, Harringay

I used to drink in here a lot, but seem to have gone off it a bit recently. The food is still great, and fantastic value for money, but it seems to be lacking something. Maybe the reintroduction of Open Deck Night and Open Mike Night might be a good idea.
The staff are friendly and I love the smoking area, though it can get a bit crowded at times.
The cocktails are excellent :)

The Salisbury, Harringay

Note to JohnBonser....actually, the majority of people who drink in The Salisbury are not Turkish or Cypriots. That is the beauty of the place - it is a mish-mash of all ethnic communities and backgrounds.
You really should try to broaden your mind a little, and if you don't like the location or clientele, you should do as dalglish suggests and go drink in a pub somewhere within an "English Community".

The Salisbury, Harringay

Usually a good night out at the weekend if there is a band or DJ on, but otherwise can lack atmosphere. The jukebox is great and the bar staff are friendly enough, if somewhat slow to serve.
The food is okay, from what I've tried, and not badly priced.
All-in-all, not a bad place, but as I mentioned before, can be a bit lifeless.

The Old Ale Emporium, Harringay

This is a great little pub with an interesting array of clientele. The bar staff are friendly and helpful and the locals are fun to be around.
Great variety of beverages and a fantastic jukebox.
Thoroughly recommended.
