The Spread Eagle, Croydon

The Spread Eagle is good for service and ambience, The manager is continuously on holiday which makes you wonder a little as to whether this public house is being run on proper lines. Needs a change of management to bring new and inventive ideas to this somewhat stagnant public house attitude.

The Crown and Pepper, Croydon

Pub serves good food (had once) and fair selection of lagers, cannot comment on ales as i don't drink them. But seems that you are walking into an Indian restaurant, smell is intense plus most of the patrons and bar staff are ethnic. It may work in Bombay but doesn't work for me in Croydon.

After visiting this pub on a number of occasions under the old totalitarian management I was pleasantly surprised buy the new management who are Chinese and Indian partners. The part owner who is Chinese (and who served me) was most pleasant and chatty at serving me my drink. The drinks were still the same price, but it makes a big difference when you are treated in a courteous manner in common with a high-class establishment.

On informing him that my wife her relative and I would like to have a meal there the following day, he pulled out all the stops and asked me to reserve any table i wanted and asked me what they might like from the menu, which is Chinese/Indian fusion, insisting that it would be a memorable experience. The meals were tasty, generous and value for money, the table and bar service was flawless.

These new owners are really trying and although they are planning many changes I would recommend this establishment.

Milan Bar, Croydon

When you approach the bar here most of the barstaff disappear, maybe they were taught to do this in their training. Cheap beer/lager and food is popular espeacially at weekends. Bar staff do regually check ID's which is good as alot of kids try it on. My friends and i call it CHAV CENTRAL. Some of the bar staff do try hard most of the time. The assistant manager is worthy of better things, polite, proffesional and astute.

This pub is getting rather expensive, have heard that fullers have just increased their prices again! Most pubs in the area are reducing their prices, but not this one. Also have heard about a few drunken idiots on occasions who seem to spoil it for the rest, but nothing seems to be done about ejecting these people, management never seems to be around which is a shame as it is their reposibility to keep order. If this pub was anywhere but next to the town hall i don't think it would survive. I can get a pint of Sam Miguel from La Tosca at the same price and that's a restaurant. Your getting to pricey fullers.

Not bad for beers and service. If you sit outside and smoke you will find your friendly arseholes from croydon trying to ponce a fag all the time. Otherwise not bad, with some nice looking women on occasions.

Yates's, Croydon

This pub used to be nice in the old days, cannot say anything good except that they have enough urinals for a party of boozed up elephants.

Vintage, Croydon

Went there recently with the wife on a saturday lunchtime. Can't remember the price of the drinks but food was not worth it. I had a beef steak sandwich with just half a dozen chips. Waitress was friendly and helpful but would not recommend coming here to eat. It looks like the owners done up the place on the cheap. Tables look secondhand with alot of deep knife marks and scratches. Needs better management and deco.

Nice clean and bright pub with good ales and fair selection of lager. Bar staff friendly, but be warned, this pub is one of the most expensive in Croydon. 3.40 for San Miguel larger!

Small seating area outside for smokers but can be noisy in the afternoons due to school kids by bus stops outside. Big bar upstairs for private functions. Food good but pricey.
This pub seems to run by itself although there is management (when they are around, which is not very often).

Clientele is mainly council workers from Taberner House and the odd councillor. Generally a good high standard pub.

Been to this pub a few times. Food is good and nice beer garden at the back. Fare selection of lagers but a little pricey. The management has improved although the new management is not exactly hands on style. When I was there recently the manageress was alone at the bar but when I went to be served she dashed outside to call the bar staff who were collecting glasses from beer garden. Can she pull a pint?
Also not keen on the blackboard in the gents as this is only used for graffiti.
Big screen tvs showing football everywhere, but not everyone wants to watch it. They also go through a lot of bar staff. I wonder why?
