The George, Great Portland Street

"love", "darling", "sir" and "yesmate" are just some of the things I've been called by the welcoming staff of The George.

And it's that kind of customer service that they extend across their whole business. Always friendly, chatty and quick to serve, they make the illicit worktime pint a positive joy.

Fruit, Bournemouth

Shocking. A new bar in Bournemouth that isn't rubbish. In fact, it's quite the opposite. I do hope it isn't owned by the man that owns all the other bars in town.

The Admiral Codrington, Brompton

Normally great staff. Normally grating locals. Busy in the evening, as if all the other pubs in the area have a strict policy about not letting in rude fat men with their coke addled daughter-wives.

The Hour Glass, South Kensington

Great staff. Great locals. Dodgy toilets. New (and slightly rubbish) quiz machine. If you're ever in the vicinity of the Hour Glass and feel like having a drink in the Hour Glass, it's well worth popping in.

Paxtons Head, Knightsbridge

A pub that I too know as Stabbers. The only place that I've ever seen a (small) woman beat up a (tall) man - by smashing a compact camera into his skull. I left pretty much after that, so I don't know what the fracas developed into.

Apartment 195, Chelsea

Just wrong. Like being in a night club in the daytime.

The Builders Arms, Chelsea

Quieter and less offensive than its contemporaries, the Builder's Arms is a pleasant venue for the lunchtime escapee. Frequented by do-nothing-own-everythings it's typical backstreet Chelsea, but regular sightings of young clergymen ensure that there's more to talk about than the wet-gussetted dog-carrying trustafarians that tease me so.
