The Queens Hotel, Crouch End

although i agree with most of these reviewers, i can't help but like the place. the new manager is really nice - i've spoken to her a couple of times and we've talked a lot about the reputation it has at the moment. some of the beers are a bit weird (they have a cross between a bitter and a lager on draught which is just wrong!), the wine list is good and the food (i've only had lunch) is very tasty. haven't been down at weekends or when its been busy, but they're doind their best to turn things around so i'll definatley return!!

The Maynard Arms, Crouch End

went in one glorious sunday afternoon and had a couple in the beer garden. the staff seemed very pleasant, the beer was good and although i didn't eat the food looked above average. BUT the decor for me was trying too hard to be contemporary and cool - what's wrong with the traditional pub of yesteryear? why tinker with tradition? i prefer the queens (see my review) and the old dairy (more my local). saying that, i'd go back and wouldn't be unhappy if it was on my doorstep!

The Faltering Fullback, Finsbury Park

not all its cracked up to be! the outside terrace is really nice, if you can get a table. the front bar is pretty cool but that back room is horrible. probably better than the boozers in finsbury park that's for sure, but the old dairy up the road has a slight edge on it - just!

The Stapleton Tavern, Finsbury Park

is this the larrik in stroud green? 'cozy','cool boozer', 'upmarket' - i've went in once and never again, ignorant staff, expensive drinks, dodgy customers, lit up like a power station and an atmosphere like a damp paper bag. can't help but think that these reviews have been done by the owners!!!

The Old Dairy, Finsbury Park

what or who are 'dorito advert types'?

my wife and i live around the corner and visit the old dairy quite a lot. the food is excellent, especially for a pub; the atmosphere is laid back and the crowd seem to be comprised of 30 something media types - very crouch end. on my last visit simon pegg was in here with his little dog - and i've seen alan carr in here before.

i agree with the last reviewer about the beer (they always have some good bitters on), and the fact the pub is less threatening than the larrik (i'd go as far as to say the place isn't threatening in the slightest!).

i'm not saying its the best pub in london, not by a long way, but in my humble opinion its the best pub around crouch end and finsbury park by a country mile!!
