The Black Horse Inn, Byworth

After searching around for a decent pub in the Petworth area I think I've finally found it. Doesn't look much from the outside, but when you go in theres a real treat. Wood floor, old fashioned bar and proper barstools. This place is the genuine article. The day we went there was a huge log fire, and lots of people and dogs who had been shooting. Terrific atmosphere, and the choice of real beers was wonderful. We hadn't booked, but decided to stay and eat. The lovely young manageress showed us through to the cosy restaurant, where we had the most fantastic meal. The presentation was wonderful, and the quality of the food was out of this world. A definate return visit is planned soon.

The Star, Petworth

Tried this pub just before Christmas. quite basic for a town centre pub, and not very busy. Staff were friendly, and the bar snacks were simple but tasty. Too many baseball caps around for my personal taste though. The beer was OK, but limited to Fullers.

Horse Guards Inn, Petworth

Just moved near tp this place, anf thought it would make a good local. Fantastic position and looks lovely from the outside. Inside was disappointing though. Looks like it was once a proper village pub but has been tarted up recently. More restaurant than a pub. The beer was good, but we felt unwelcome as non-diners. A real shame.

Badgers, Petworth

Moved to the Petworth area before Christmas, and been looking around for decent pubs. The Badgers is in a nice spot and looked nice from the outside. Inside was a bit crowded, with no easy access to the bar. The Landlady and bar staff were friendly, but the regulars were a noisy lot who showed no regard for other customers like us. Im afraid the beer wasn't upto much either. Will give it another chance soon.
