Golden Cross Heathrow, Colnbrook

Don't look at any review pre November 2011 as they're no longer relevant. The new management has transformed the pub 100% - no TV, no Sky hooray. They have consistently served better cask ale than any other Colnbrook pub I've found in my 12-year search for a decent pub within walking distance (since Ron left the Olde George, anyway).
It's not perfect: needs a little work on not letting it go flat toward the end of the cask. But for now, at least I can pop in on the way home for a swift half and be fairly sure of not being disappointed. Food looks good too. A good start all round for the new management and worth a visit.

The Star and Garter, Colnbrook

It's shut now (end June 2009) - anyone know what's happening to it?

The Beehive, Englefield Green

Went there yesterday (Monday 29th June) evening having sustained myself through two traffic jams with the thought of a pint of Pride. Arrived about 6.30 - no beer at all. Eh? All four pumps not available. No Pride, no Discovery, no ESB, no guest beer. Good grief. This is a Fuller's house with no beer. It was OK last week so what's gone wrong?

The stroppy young scot with baseball cap behind the bar said it was because Fuller's "failed to deliver today". And the beardy regular on lager said they had waited til 4.30 and then said they couldn't get there.

I said hang on a minute, even if they had delievred, the beer still needed at least a day to settle so even if there was a failed delivery that still didn't explain why all 4 beers were off. Response "well that's what happened and there's no beer." Which, to use the marketing technical phraseology, is a lie.

What's worse, no beer, lying to customers or thinking the customers are so stupid they wouldn't spot it?

The Cavalier Inn, Torrington

I stayed here Oct 08 in one of their b&b rooms and am happy to recommend this pub to any other real ale drinker needing a room for the night anywhere near Torrington. I read elsewhere the rooms have been recently refurbished and mine was certainly fresh and clean with a big comfy bed, large bathroom and a shower that worked.

The freshly cooked breakfast was enormous and, most importantly, the Sharps Doom Bar was very drinkable. Good stuff. Would certainly stay here again or just drop in for a pint.
