The Nell Gwynne, Covent Garden

Dear Mr. Duck, First of all may I express my deep sorrow and concern for your mule. I know how heavily the west country folk depend on mules for transport and farming. I have called Rolf Harris and hope he will be round soon with the rest of The Animal Hospital crew in tow. Until then I will be praying for a speedy recovery

Secondly, thank you for your support. I felt like The Lone Ranger. Now it would appear I have a Tonto. Even though I'm sure it's politically incorrect to mention Tonto. But you see what I'm getting at

If Muffin does make a recovery and you ride with him/her into London, rest assured you will be welcomed with open arms. Free drinks are guaranteed. Muffin is welcome too, but only if he is on a leash. Rules is rules.

I would like to make a joke about giving Muffin a drink of Moscow Mule, but sadly, it is no longer in production

Please keep me informed of Muffin's welfare

Kind Regards

Nell Gwynne

No problem. Will get it in by the end of September
And as I have said, I am completely open to any suggestions regarding The Nell
I'd rather not get involved in any of this again, so if anybody has any problems they can contact me directly either through this website or at The Nell

If Scoobyroo had chosen to address to complain directly to me or the pub, none of this would have been necessary
I have the right to defend my staff and my pub
You can read into this and call it borderline aggression. It's easy to spin
But if you choose to publicly slate a pub, surely one should be prepared for the pub to not just take it lying down?
I feel very passionately about The Nell and it's staff
If passion is to be confused with aggression, so be it

In response to your posts..
@mikey1234. I have, over the years, read many a negative review on this website
I'm fine with that. As I said, I'm aware that some people may come to The Nell and not enjoy themselves. To each their own
I only responded to this particular post as I felt upset as it was an attack on my staff during the London riots. Yes, I carried on, but maybe it was just the straw that broke the camel's back
Do you realise the potential such negative reviews have on my business in a time when pubs are struggling?
You ask why I didn't respond in a professional manner? Had the issue been raised in a professional manner, and not displayed on a public forum, then I would have.
People think it's acceptable to come on here and criticise, yet when a pub defends itself, all of a sudden the pub is somehow out of order.
What gives you the right to attack without my right to defend?

I am the manager of The Nell. I have been for 14 years
A friend of mine pointed me to this website a few years ago
I appreciate that while these forums are always going to contain negative as well as positive reviews. I feel duty bound to respond to the most recent criticism
The reason why the staff were so eager to finish up was in light of the London riots
They wanted to get home safely and as early as possible. I'm sure people can appreciate this
I see you feel that the pub is on a "downward spiral" as you so eloquently put it
It's a shame you feel you have to go onto a website to vent your spleen. These sites are perfect for those who want to hide behind a username to criticise
By all means, please mention to me or the staff any problems you may have
We are more than happy to take on board any constructive crticism and act on it
As I said, I'm aware we are not everyone's cup of tea and we are open to constructive criticism
But the joy of London is that it has a wide variety of pubs to cater for everyone's tastes
You say you won't be back. That's fine. It's a shame you couldn't just leave quietly with some dignity
My staff were putting their own safety before all. They are more important to me than any customer will ever be
Enjoy your new watering hole
The Nell has been around for centuries, and will remain so
Even in the face of cowardly critics like your good self
