Blackboys Inn, Blackboys

Oh my word! what has happened to the menu again?
Just when it was going great with fresh local produce excellently prepared and served i thought it was the turn around for our favourite pub. then i read Mr reviews thoughts and had to get back down there again. Well i thought i had seen it all with odd shaped plates and strange menus on ramsays kitchen nightmares but horror its reincarnated in this great pub. Please bring back local well cooked food not Red Snapper (are they in season). This area has fantastic local suppliers use them and get back to great food again not prentious rubbish, the portions are noticably smaller as well. Come on get it back on track it was going so well.

The Rose and Crown, Burwash

Love this pub, great atmosphere nice decor. Beer well looked after, wine is very good. Nice seasonal small manageable menu. Well prepared and cooked.
Thoroughly recommend it for an evening out.
Negative point ,staff are very young and a bit scruffy. Landlord very attentive and professional. Keep going back, only pub in Burwash.

The Bottle House, Penshurst

I have visited this pub on many occasions and can only say that i have never had a bad experience. The beer is very good, wine good and value for money.
I can assure all the sceptics that the menu is not break bros. I know for a fact that the food prep is all fresh apart from the odd dessert.
Would reccomend it for food to anyone, nice menu well executed.
Come on guys it pub food dont expect michelin. But you will get great pub food.
Only critacism portions are too big.

The Five Ashes Inn, Mayfield

Nice location,lovely looking building.
Old fashioned inside, needs a refit but it has charm.
The beer is very good and very well kept. Wine ok value for money, better than some of its more illustrious neighbours. Food only pub food but you know what your getting.
Landlord and Landlady are lovely, great fun.
Highly recommended.

The Middle House Hotel, Mayfield

What can i say! Beautiful location, beautiful building, nice staff. Here it ends.
I think tricky has a point in some respects and i dont live in london.
A menu Gordon would have a field day with if he could read it.
House wine very sub standard for what its trying to be.Beer for a free house not very appealing.
The re-vamp is a major plus well done. Nice beer garden also.
Many plus points but a lot of minuses.
Keep the menu simple may be a start. Make it readable. Get some decent wine in,
Overall a lovely pub nice meeting point.

Blackboys Inn, Blackboys

Just been to the blackboys again after the decorations have been removed, (what a relief-bit tacky). Again had a very good overall experience. The staff very pleasant and knowledgeable. Maybe needs one or two more front of house to give excellent service but hey were talking about a pub in the country not pretentious gastro ramsay in town.
The food was seasonal ,local (Pheasants shot down the road) well presented and very tasty. Pricing about average value for money i thought, i couldnt eat it all.
Great feel to the place and hard working staff made the evening very enjoyable.
Must agree about the music as with other reviews, very depressing, old fashioned and naff,
I will be going again the pub is developing all the time when will stop, its going in the right direction though.
I think the bad reviews sound like disgruntled old staff maybe?
