Hotel Deux, Sherwood Rise

Good Points....
It's great to find musicians who are not up their own arse.

Fair stage-time given to all

Management and staff always agreeable.

Bad Points....
Selling probibly the worst lager in the world.

Half of the clientel seem to be so far up their own arses that they look on everyone as shite.

P.A. caould do with turning up.

OVER-ALL.....
It is indeed a quite venue..but one where you can relax, (inspite of the lager).

It will seem like it has its little cliques at first to a new comers, BUT I believe this is unintentional as most people there will stop and have a chat.

Well worth a visit on a Sunday evening

The Lion, New Basford

I have seen many a good musician at the open mike nights (Thursdays) but I am sorry to say that they have taken the road to qickly becoming a clique set up.

I hope they stop before they reach the point of no return.
Already I have noticed so many talented people no longer attending.
What started as the best open mike in Nottingham has very quickly lost the plot.
If you only wish friends to play then have a party at your house and leave the pubs to real musicians.

The Golden Fleece, Nottingham

Unless you are part of the clique do not go hoping to play on the open mike nights.
I once witnessed a man ask for a spot, (It was 7:30pm there were only five people in the place(not counting bar staff)).
He was told that the list was full.

I stayed for the evening and watched as other people slowly entered and were imediately put on the list.

Keep your cliques...it's not for me.
Yet another pub without true musicians.

The Running Horse, Nottingham

It is with great sadness that I now do not attend the running horse.

A once great venue for bands and open mike nights and jam sessions.

Sadly If you are not in the clique then you have no chance of performing or if by some mistake you are allowed then the talking increases to a level that the performer cannot be heard.

I know of several musicians who have waited and waited to play and have been ignored on more than one occassion.

They have all been driven away.

I recall one man (I do not know his name) But he has an incredible voice, I have heard him sing "The Port of Amsterdam" and it truely brought tears to my eyes.
Other songs I recall are "I Don't Wanna Talk About It", and "Only You" just him and his guitar.

I have not seen this person for over two years in the Runner.
This is what I am talking about....If the cliques bring you money then fine KEEP THEM AND LICK EACHOTHERS ARSOLES.....
But you have run off the biggests talents this City has ever known.

Farewell "Runner" How the mighty has fallen.

The Greyhound, Beeston

I have sat back and watched with sadness as this venue has fallen into the cltuches of the cliques.

The venue as a whole is by far the best in the area with a high standard of bands...(Can't fault them on this point).

The open mike night (every Tuesday) is bay far the best in the whole of Nottingham, Very friendly and always up for a laugh.

The jam session (every Sunday afternoon) has fallen to the clique brigade.
I have watched with great sadness as the clique set in.
Very unfair allocation of stage time to musicians not in their clique, Sometimes resulting in many people who have waited all afternoon to play not being allowed.

The only saving grace to this Sunday farce is a very talented man (Whom I have noted has been given a very bad deal) who will play with any musician (no matter how bad they are) He still holds the value of fun to music ratio.
I do believe there is a little jealousy towards him by other so called musicians as he has the ability to comunicate with the crowd and at the same time make his fellow musicians feel special while on the stage.
He deserves better than these clowns.

The house band in contrast will only back those in their clique and if they are unfortunate enough to be placed in a position where they have to play with someone who is far more talented then they are they always make the mistake in trying to out-play or drown-out the guest act.

COME ON GREYHOUND...
You once had it all going for you.....Do not end up like the Running horse by letting these arogant fools wreck your venue.....
You pay them so you tell them what is needed if they do not earn their pay then replace them.(Too many people are not attending already)(Do something before it is too late).
