The Brook Green Hotel, Hammersmith

Gave this one another shot, but must sadly agree with many recent despondent comments about the demise of a good pub aiming to be a wine bar. The Youngs ale was OK but expensive. Nearby Nicholson poured a ton of money into creating The Swan on Hammersmith Broadway which is always busy. But Youngs have different ideas. The Brook Green Hotel once had a following of the most local loyal customers.

The William Morris, Hammersmith

This was recently re-branded as a regular Wetherspoon, so no longer the Lloyds No 1 version. Had a small amount of re-furb done, but still caters to same clientele ie. cash strapped customers. (It stopped doing the clubbing nights some time ago). Its stablemate, the Plough and Harrow up the road, does a much better job at real ales than the William Morris. Which is a shame because the Nicholson next door goes all barrels blazing in great real ales. And staff are still being told to advertise unavailable beers which is bad practice.

Fox and Hounds, Shepherds Bush

This pub is no longer named the Fox and Hounds. It is now The Jameson. Have not been inside, but it is now aiming at a different clientele than the F&H with tables dedicated to diners. The new proprietor needs some effective marketing to inform the local residents of the change in order to lure them inside. Not trivial!

The Duke (of York), Holborn

Shameless manager: first he demanded for 4 for a pint. That pint was bad, so we had to return it. Then he was surprised that casks went empty. What a mess, not coming back.

The Crown and Sceptre, Kensington

This pub was sadly disappointing after the refurb. The real ale asking prices are all 3.50 a pint. Ridiculous! Even West End pub chains like Nicholsons do more attractive prices. Is it betting on affluent Holland Park residents? Maybe. But this unfriendly pricing policy does not bode well for this troubled address. It was not busy when I called by, and I am no hurry to try it again.

The Central Bar, Shepherds Bush

This Wetherspoon W12 property has sadly reversed to the policy of the Williams Morris/Lloyds No 1 outlet in Hammersmith namely that of showing a bank real ale pump clips that are actually not on.
Does it make sense to reject customers' requests for proposed beers on offer? Apparently so. Maybe the thinking is: 'This is what you could have tasted tonight, but not right now'. My advice is very simple: turn the clip around or get the ales ready!

The William Morris, Hammersmith

Real ales are popular with the customers here. Sadly, the manager believes in the practice of displaying pump clips of ales that are not available. Come on Wetherspoon, please end that pointless practice. Tonight only 2 of the 6 ales were actually available.

The Crown and Sceptre, Kensington

This pub is being refurbished, apparently by the people behind the Albion in nearby Hammersmith Road. So it is not being converted into flats.

Latymers, Hammersmith

Cheapest London Pride (currently 3.00) in the area and the Pride is always in a perfect nick.

The Old Parrs Head, Kensington

Now makes an effort to feature guest ales: Wychwood Hobgoblin or Hop Back Summer Lightning. But even if those are not available, the London Pride is always in perfect nick!

The Crown and Sceptre, Kensington

Sadly this pub appears to have been closed down.
