The Hartington, Brighton

The Hartington was once my local. Foodwise; The Sunday Roasts are possibly the nest in Brighton, the tapas menu is inspired, and Monday night is Curry & Pint for 5...Nice!
They don't play the music too loud, and they don't make a feature out of sports. They show local artwork on the walls, and the staff are so friendly!
The decor is great and the graden is a real sun trap in the summer.
I just love this place.

Kandi, Richmond

This place tries to be a cross between B@1 and All Bar One, but its more like All Bar One unfortunately. It is expensive and pretentious, and is more interested in selling the image than the cocktails.

Better selection, service, staff, atmosphere over the road.

Oh, and I thought we left the kitsch misspellings back in the 80s!? Kandi?? Whatever.

All Bar One, Richmond

Remember those TV adverts that say 'my local bank was turned into a trendy wine bar..etc'...Well, All Bar One in Richmond used to be the Natwest...and I would have preferred it to have stayed that way!

B@1 (Be At One), Richmond

It is small, and it is hot, so if you don't like that, don't come. However you can't deny the benefits of this little gem. The staff are talented, efficient, and clearly love their job, which adds to the fantastic atmosphere in there. 2-4-1 cocktail hours every night. Great funk/soul/jazz music. An extensive menu. Plus, the added bonus of the occasional 'screaming orgasm'.
This is, without a doubt, my favourite place to drink in Richmond. Its not pretencious or elitest, its just lovely!

The Hope, Richmond

It accessable to all ages, its friendly, and most importantly...its authentic. Even the crisps they sell are Irish!

Check out the little room at the back for cheeky drinking games and private chats.

O'Neills, Richmond

It's funny; even those who's mother's father's dog was irish, claim to be irish also once inside. It is it's claim to Irishness which makes O'Neill's so popular...everyone wants a piece of the celtic attitude and thrist for fun. You won't find it here though!
It not authentic, and its not special. People queue for hours simply because its the best of 3/4 places in Richmond that stays open after 11.

That said, if you are in Richmond after 11, don't even bother going anywhere else! Its not rubbish, its just not as special as one would hope.
