The Queens Arms, South Kensington

Nearest pub to the Imperial Physics Department. Good food. Gets very busy in the evenings and friday lunch. Full of poncy music types from the Albert hall and RCM. Best time to go: Late lunch after Holland club closes at 2:30.

The Princess of Prussia, Tower Hill

Inbetween my house and the weatherspoons (Goodman Fields). Very quiet after lunch times. Quiet beer garden at the back. Have Oranjeboom on tap.

The Brown Bear, Whitechapel

My nearest pub. Always full of city w@nkers at lunch time. Insist on playing music far too loud. Not much to offer on tap. Redeeming feature: its next to one of the best curry in london.

Thomas More, Wapping

Nearest place to my house that is open on a Sunday, though they will try to kick you out at 10.30pm. Crap chain pub that attracts larger louts for the footie. If there is a game on there is no where to sit, sometimes stand. Expensive. Standard pub grub. Used to go on Saturday nights before the Rose reopened. Only redeeming feature is the pool table.

St Georges Tavern (The Caxton), Wapping

Used to be the only pub on the Highway for a while until the rose reopened. Has really gone down hill. Has a happy hour from 6-7 weekdays, which is it's only redeeming feature. Stalf, though friendly and very pretty, have poor English and as a result service is slow and bunggled. Don't ask for anything complicated, be ready to be served the wrong drink. Don't order food! Does not accept cards, though they have a cash machine that charges. Use the petrol station garage across the road for cash, though be careful crossing the Highway when drunk. If you walk past it and fancy a drink carry on walking for 2 mins till you get to the Rose and drink there.

The Old Rose, Shadwell

On the contrary to the other review. The Rose is a great little pub. Lacks in real ale, though the two bitters on tap are always kept well and fresh. It is the only place to drink around this area and, unlike most things in this area, is open on Saturdays. Very friendly bar staff. Clientelle consist of Reporters and people who work at News International, regulars proping up the bar and a small contingent of Aussies. Does good standard pub food at lunch times. Packed on Thursday and Friday lunch times.
