Has had a facelift and is now called 'Cape'. Went in there last Friday to watch the Euro 2008 game between France and Holland. The Thomas More used to be an OK place to watch the match, loads of screens and spacious, but Cape was a disappointment. It feels more like a coffee house than a pub, with the refurb taking away any of the charm (not that there was much of that to begin with, but at least the TM attempted to create a traditional atmosphere). Clearly they are trying to cater for the more upmarket crowd. To be fair to them, the food looked OK and they were doing a great trade, but the place left me cold. The Truman Arms, just up the road on Dock Street, is a much better boozer for football, beer and atmosphere. I went there for the second half. snote - 20 Jun 2008 15:09
Went to the Thomas More bar on Saturday , ordered some food , half an hour after ordering the waitress came back to us to advise they run out of our original choice ! Depiste the place not being full we had to wait another half an hour later before our burgers turned up. Microwave focaccia bread , chewy burgers ! If you are planning a party there , think again! angeldelight - 9 Jun 2008 13:28
Last night was great!! Was in there for the footie last night... Massive Arsenal fan!! Wohoo!! (go on you Gunners!!)... atmosphere was wicked!! Especially when we scored the first time and everyone was jumping around like crazy!! Though i did spill my drink over but the bar staff were kind enough to pour me another! Ordered food in there last night and it did take a little bit longer however i kind of expected it considering how busy it was. When the food turned up, to my surprise, it was actually quite nice! Its not restaurant cuisine, but did definelty go down a treat and will be returning in the future. round1 - 5 Mar 2008 11:31
A poor excuse for a pub. Poorly trained bar staff who cannot cope when the pub is busy (i.e. lunch times and after work, in an area surrounded by offices). Beer badly looked after which is very very warm in the summer. Loud music blaring out and badly maintained toilets. Oh and almost everything on the menu is deep-fried. Do yourself a favour and get some exercise by taking a stroll to the town of ramsgate where you'll have a much better pub experience. Chiefy - 14 Feb 2008 12:51
Awful service by most of the staff and the place is just a big room rather than a decent pub with atmosphere. This is a shame as this could be a good venue for sporting events. However it will not be until the area manager comes around and kicks some butt. As posted by 'Colonel' previously, the glasses were all filthy and when I asked for a clean one, (how dare I), the response was 'it is clean, they are all like that!' This simply is not good enough, if you run a pub then you should give a monkeys about the state of your glasses. Perhaps your glass cleaning machine needs fixing! Oh and don't bother me with the 'it's just water marks' excuse, as this is not good enough, decent pubs clean their glasses properly. This simply means you are terrible at your job and can't be bothered. While I'm on the subject of fixing, I'll mention the speakers. We went into watch the rugby on Saturday and the speakers in one half of the pub were not working. Instead of apologising and explaining when I asked the 'manageress', she snappily replied, 'the amp is broken, it comes on and goes off there's nothing I can do.' How about getting it fixed sweetheart? Management: First of all, sort yourselves out and then in no particular order; Get your sound equipment fixed Get your glass cleaning equipment fixed Get some decent bar staff who can understand the English language and do actually want to work there Clean and fix the toilets SJohnson - 14 Aug 2007 16:22
