The Hillary Step, Whalley Range

A bit doubtful on first walking in but the beer was spot on and a good range, friendly staff, good service, simple and straightforward surroundings. Not many pubs you can say that about unfortunately.

The Marble Beer House, Chorlton cum Hardy

Easy to miss it the first time, which I did. But worth finding. More like a bar than a pub but the range of beer was good. Busy but a comfortable feel, no music.

The Priory Arms, Stockwell

I've been here twice over the summer in early evenings and the beer certainly wasn't spot on. It tended to be warm and past its best. Had to resort to the old trick of watching other customers buy a pint to see whether it was nice and clear, and then ordering the same so that it was fresh and hadn't been in the pipes too long. Problem was not many punters buying cask beer which probably means a slow turnover of barrels and less fresh beer, which in turn means fewer sales etc etc. They should reduce the choice on offer, I'd rather have a small choice of really good beer than a large choice of average (or worse) beers.

Or was I just unlucky?

The Constitution, Pimlico

Poor beer, poor service. I bought a pint that was cloudy and vinegary. I asked to change it. The barman looked at it for a while, talked to his colleague, then started to serve me another of the same! I said no, I'll have a different one, which he served. That was drinkable but only just.

Shame because it's not a bad pub otherwise but I won't be going back.
