Crewe and Harpur, Swarkestone

An attractive looking and well positioned pub but always a let down because it's not a great pub for real ale.
Basically a Marston's food pub serving the usual average food.

John Thompson Inn, Derby

The beer is always good here.
Not really a young person's pub.
Service is always efficient and friendly.
Some nice local walks start here (leaflets in pub).

Roebuck, Melbourne

Basic pub serving some good beer at present.
Unfortunately due to close at the end of January 2011.

Chesterfield Arms, Hartshorne

This pub has been demolished!

Alma Inn, Melbourne

This pub is now in the GBG and hosts two beer festivals a year.
It's very much an unpretentious local that serves good beer.
Mainly Marstons.

Ye Olde Packhorse Inn, Derby

Popped in for a drink today. Pretty good pint of Jennings Snecklifter. It was Saturday afternoon and the place was very quiet but there are signs that the place is picking up.

The Kings Head, Monmouth

Very limited range of beers available other than the usual Greene King beers when visited yesterday (03/09/2010).
Food - usual Spoons quality and wait to be served.
Disappointed that so many micro brews were finished or "available soon".
Great building and location.

Blue Bell, Melbourne

The Shardlow beers are usually very drinkable and reasonably priced.
The bars are however a bit soulless.
Pleasant outside drinking area.

The Stag and Hounds, Burrough on the Hill

It is now called Grant's Free House.

22 Aug 2010 23:56

Stilton Cheese Inn, Somerby

Good range of real ales including several from micros. Friendly staff and locals. Did not eat there so cannot comment on food.

Bulls Head, Wilson

After several periods of closure The Bulls Head has reopened and is now run by the team who were here a few years ago. They are also at the Falcon at Long Whatton.

The beer is pretty good especially the Timothy Taylor's. The food is very good but prices have been hiked up recently, So no longer such a bargain.

15 Aug 2010 19:41

The Nags Head, Harby

Had two Jennings real ales on tap when visited.
Beer OK but service slow and food expensive for the poor quality.

23 Aug 2008 17:37

The Old Silk Mill, Derby

Seems to be closed during the day. I walk past most days.
Up for sale.
A shadow of its former self.

20 Jul 2008 00:39

Ye Olde Dolphin Inn, Derby

Beer usually good but disappointed this week by small and unimaginative food portions.

27 Jun 2008 19:14

The Old Bell, Derby

Excellent location on Sadler Gate. However - the back room is scruffy and dirty with no real ale. Great old building being wasted and run down by owners.

8 Jun 2008 17:44

Bulls Head, Wilson

Unfortunately this pub has been closed since the end of 2007.
