The Mishnish Hotel, Tobermory

Never been here in the evening (ferries!) (so have missed the legendary music) but had several lunches over the years - food always very good, service always friendly and efficient, and rooms welcoming and particularly wonderful if you walk through the bar on the right of the entrance to the little rooms at the back.

The Sun Inn, Buxton

Only visited lunchtimes (over Christmas 2005) lovely pub, conventional pub meals menu, tables really low - knee level - some tables had setees which I suppose would bring you down to table level but we didn't get one which put us off a bit for future visits. (Light bites menu offered scampi but you only get four, which I think is a bit too light)

The Kings Head, Buxton

Visited several lunchtimes over Christmas 2005 - conservative menu but everything we tried really well done - friendly and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, plenty of space totally enjoyable

The Cheshire Cheese Hotel, Buxton

Tlhis may not be fair, but walked in at lunchtime over Christmas, strong smell of cigarette smoke, no smell of food, lots of single men sitting alone and no conversation going on - didn't find it welcoming, so left. Looked really good from the outside, perhaps we just arrived on a bad day.
